Solomon's Seal

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Does anyone have any Solomon's Seal that they would like to trade for??? Would like to try to grow this here. Please let me know if interested and see if we could make a trade.

Thanks

Oh, I wish I had enough to part with, but I only have two plants, one is regular and the other variegated. Maybe they'll grow big enough next year to divide?

Carla, you are such a jewel. By the way, I got to meet Cheryl while I was up in Chicago. She is so nice.

Dee - I have the regular green Soloman's seal in you want some. It gets about 2 feet tall maybe a little taller. They are a tuberous rhizome so it'd probably be best to dig and plant them in the fall.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Oh poppysue that would be great. Are you looking for anything in particular. Let me know, I have mostly tropicals and some brugs of course. I saw this growing when I was in Mass. last month. Drove over there for the day while I was in NY. They didn't have it for sale but I got to see it growing. The lady thought that it might become an invasive plant down here but wasn't sure. I have plenty of room for it to invade if it so chooses.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Dee - I don't think it would be invasive. I was thinking it might struggle in your heat. I rescued my plants from an abandoned homestead that is now a turnpike exit. I got some cool plants from that place including a huge patch of cimicifuga.

I'll make a note for a fall trade with you. Maybe we can swap some other things too to make it worth the postage hike. I can always be tempted with brugs I don't have or tropicals I can winter inside.

Sue - I looked it up. Says cold tolerant zone 3-5 and heat tolerant 8-9. I am zone 8 so I think it should be ok. I wanna give it try anyway. I will make a list up and send to you. Let me know what brugs you have and are looking for and I will send you if I got what you want. Also other things, you are right with the postage hike need to send several things.

Poppysue--if you have any extra Soloman's Seal I'd love to make you a trade if you'd be interested in any daylilies this fall when I dig. I'd like to have a couple rizones to get a start of the solomon's seal....it IS a weed in Ark where I'm from, but hard to find, only grows in the dark deep woods wild. Thanks,Ellen

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Sure Ellen - I'm always interested in daylilies!

Dee I've got a bit of darf Solomons if you're interested.

I have lots of both Polygonatum verticillatum and P. multiflorum if you're interested:)

Edited: And I can find P. odoratum if you'd like me too.

I just received dozens of mature bulbs (not rhizomes) of some form of Solomon's Seal. Perhaps some of you would be able to help identify it, and I would be happy to trade most of them.

I don't have a digital camera, so I'll have to rely on language skills. They each have a single arching stalk, nearly three feet long, reaching from their gallon pots to the ground or almost to the ground, with lily-like leaves (but wider) that are in opposite pairs, and the leaves have a flame-like upward curl to their tips. The bulbs look very much like Asiatic lily bulbs, except that they are bright yellow.

I hope this description doesn't apply to all Solomon's Seals. If there is something else I can look for to positively identify them, I would be glad to check it and reply.

jody, I would love to try a bit of the dwarf. Let me know what you are interested in and see if I have anything you might like.

Arsenic, I would like to try a piece of all 3 if you don't mind. Let me know what you are interested in for trade.

Poppysue, let me know when you are ready to dig.

Thanks all

Dee - I'm shooting for October - if that's Okay.

I'll be digging some up by next week. Send me an e-mail with your addy.

I'll wait until they have died down; in a month or so. Could you remind me...:)
