Is Persian Shield a Tropical?

Just wasn't sure if this is considered a tropical?

I think so Glory. it isn't hardy, which in my book makes it tropical. Sure looks great in a tropical bed.

According to Aloha Tropicals, it is.

It is..frost will kill it..

I agree.

The tag that came with the one I bought this spring said it's a tropical, so I put it in a pot to bring inside.

Yours looks so great!!! Mine has suffered from wind and sun and the outer part of the leaves are crispy. I moved it to a more shady area and it's doing much better, but no where near as well as yours.

Thanks all

somebody tell me how to start cuttings. my three plants are too big to bring in :( and need to make sure I have cuttings rooted. help!

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I've heard they are easy to start, but don't know. I had a small cutting of it one time, but it didn't make it.

tiG,
I just take a cutting about 6-8inches long, leave a couple of leaves at the top and cut them in half, dip in rootone(sometimes) and then put them in my sand box.

PJ,
Do you want me to start you one and you can pick it up in Sept?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

thanks Glory, I need to do that today. Poor PJ, the one I started her didn't make it :( sorry doll!!!

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks Glory - I would love it. Sorry TIg, I didn't have the heart to tell you it didn't make it. What would I do without someone to look after me??? BTW - today, I have my first Morning Glory Tree bloom - it's a pretty lavender!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

but if you'd said something earlier, I could have tried again already!!! :)
love my MG tree, and so do the hummers.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

You are all too good to me!!

(Zone 8a)

Glory, yours should be okay in ground there! I've had mine for 3 yrs in ground and mulch heavy and cut the limbs back and root in water.

The color is more intense if grown in shade and will fade with sun on it!

PJ...I could have brought you some!

Glory...forgot to say it will be end of month before I get to Biloxi, will let you know!

Rebecca,
I think I'll give that a try this year...just leave it in the ground and much real heavy. I have never thought about rooting it in water...I'll give that a try too.

Do me a favor and let me know a few days before you come here so I can pick up some drinks and snack for y'all.

BTW...bring a bucket just in case you find something you may want cuttings of.

(Zone 8a)

Okay...great! Will a u-haul be big enough? LOL! I love your brugs! (hint-hint)
Looking forward to meeting you!

Rebecca,
That would be a first....never had anyone come to visit with a U-Haul. LOL

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Yes Rebecca - I just didn't think to ask you at the time. I will eventually have one I'm sure.
