For Brugman.Old Glory

This is another Whiskers cross "Old Glory"...small flower. This plant,so far,has not gotten real tall like the other Whiskers hybrids.

Now, I must admit I love all of your crosses, but especially this one. Small flowers that go all the way up splitting the calyx, full color, nice rolling edges, serrated leaves...what more could one ask for?

The same here ... almost. I am crazy with the shape and color and like both Jess. Noel and Becca Lynn and Old Glory. *grin* If one could ad a visible narrow tube from a versi without disrupting neither color of shape of what we see of OG here, that would just be perfect in my taste.

Thanks y'all...I do like it too. Biloxi Belle also has small flowers but it doesn't bloom that much. :0(

Tonny,
I would bet...that if you shortened the calyx of what you see in the above you would have exactly that...a short narrow tube...ie remove a bit of the calyx or breed for either a shorter calyx or cross back to a multihybrid with suaveolens and or versicolor type genes. Of course crossing back to a pure versicolor would probably extend a large percentage of the calyx's a bit to far in my oppinion.

Nice one Gloria. If you ever have an abundance of cutting material, please keep me in mind for this one. I love the bloom and the foliage.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Very very pretty Glory. Love the name. What does Biloxi Belle look like?

Waterloo...BB is small but pale yellow....it hasn't even bloomed yet this year.

S,
Got you down for one!!!

Another beautiful cross Gloria. You sure made some nice brugs. Cala sent me a cutting of Whiskers which has flowers on a 1.5 foot plant. I can't wait til it blooms. The flowers will touch the ground. I'll post a picture as soon as it blooms.

Wow! this is another pretty one Gloria. You really produced some great hybrids.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I agree Glory you make some beautiful crosses.I am very impressed with Whiskers and Jessie Noel.Their flowers last such a long time and they smell so good. On top of that the color and shape of them are beautiful.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Such talent! so is this one with muted whitish stripes?

Thanks all....it was all pure luck.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Gloria. I appreciate it much. Thought I didn't need another yellow brug, but this one is just great.

Kell,
I don't think there is any whitish striped in this flower...that's just the way I took the picture.

it's a beauty, love the leaves too. one of whisker's babies is growing nicely, has cool leaves, will see if they stick as it keeps growing.

Arlene,
I have some of the Golden Lady X Whiskers growing and they have fuzzy serrated leaves...they are about 1-2 ft tall. Let keep our fingers cross for some doubles out of them.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

fingers crossed, Glory, you are really good at making pretty babies!

Arlene,
I think I'm to old to be making babies. LOL Just teasing...I know what you mean...Thanks
Today I crossed about 25 Double Whites with Aurea Pollen...I'll finish tomorrow. I also pollinated my LBJ Species with Aurea Hybrid Pollen....here's hoping I can get one to take.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

boy oh boy oh boy!!!!! i hope they all take for you!

Eric, suaveolens x old glory is probably better, than versicolor x old glory. Even both crosses would give interesting flowers and beautiful ones, suav. has the better chance to enlargen the tube, whereas the versicolor will elongate the perfect shape of old glory. The same will probably happen if its crossed to my x insignis R. R will ad perfect tube lenght, but also a somewhat longer corolla and worse yet an inflated calyx making L`Amours calyx seem nice and small. Its always difficult to decide, which to cross to which to go for the right shape and here its even more difficult, because the shape is already there and only the calyx has to be a little shorter, but you got to help me a little bit here, bacause how can this be done, without affecting the rest of old glorys perfect flower?

Tonny,
What do you think Frosty Pink would do for Old Glory...if not give me a name that might work.

FSH, TX

Tonny,
I think in this instance crossing to a sibling would give the best results.

Brugman,
I'll try crossing it to Jessie...if I can reach Jessie to get the pollen....next time Old Glory blooms.
