This is an Eric Knight Isabella X Butterfly that started blooming on July 12, and has never been without bloom since that date. It looks a lot like Isabella, but a little more of the Butterfly color comes through. I'm sorry this is such a lousy picture, but just wanted you to know what a continuous bloomer this one is.
The heat has a lot to do with the way the blooms look in this picture. On cool days it opens just great.

July 12th was the beginning.
wow!! I've asked everyone else, what is your feeding program? I need a cutting of this I think!
I don't think it has anything to do with the feeding because the other brugs don't perform like this one does. Must be in the genes.
gotta love one that keeps on ticking!
Shirley, I bet this one is beautiful when fully opened. I like the really deep pink edging.
It's a beauty.
it is a beauty!! like those blooming genes!
Excellent edging. Early repeat heavy bloomer...most excellent.Definitly a keeper for these traits. Great for use in hybridizing, but needing to be crossed to an aurea or versicolor type hybrid or multihybrid as it still has too much suaveolens angle to it for my taste. Just personal preference mind you. Cala's hybrid shows a lot of suaveolens influence too mind you, but the angle is a bit better...perhaps the two crossed together would make an exceptional cross if you could keep the large flaring open mouth with the high angle and deeper color. Not to mention repeat heavy blooming early bloomers out of the two. Darker fuller color....Ahh, I like that one indeed.
WOW WOW WOW I am IMPRESSED!!
Any brug that blooms continuously in the heat that we have had this summer is an amazing brug. I agree, it is in the genes. Miss Brugie . . that is the one I would be hybridizing with as much as I could. It seems to be very strong and also very pretty.
A beauty, I like it.
How nice,I love how dark it is!
Geez, you guys, I just threw it in the ground and it grew. Must say that this is also one that the mites don't seem to bother. I have others that are nearly eaten alive, but this one hangs on.
Have you thought of crossing that one to Ecuador pink to bring a bit more fuller color to the blooms?
Eric, I'd like to do that, but my EP didn't have any pollen during the first flush of bloom. I'm hoping that by the middle of Sept. there will be plenty of pollen and lots of blooms on this one. Then maybe I'll get the job done. Only problem I'll run into is taking the brug in for the winter to finish off the pod ripening. It is in the ground. May have to try the whack it off and stick it in a bucket of water thing. :-)
Brugie, I've cut branches with seed pods and trimmed all the leaves, trimmed the stem above the pod to within 6 inches of the pod and stuck in soil on a heat mat, it worked.
I will probably have to try that because I sure can't bring all those big brugs into the house. Actually, I don't want to dig them all up. Thanks Cala.
Cala,
I have done the same except no heat mat..warmer here.. and they have done super.
Just had to ask-are you going to post this one again when the blooms open up? One more question...you did save pollen from this one...right? You can always put this pollen onto Ecuador pink and put Ecuador pink pollen on this one once it blooms again. This way you can see what you get both ways from this one.
Gosh Eric, I haven't been in the garden with the camera for a while now. Will have to see if I can get a good shot today. I know the pollen is good now, but in the heat I couldn't get anything from it.
WRONG...........I was doing some searching tonight and I was wrong about this one starting to bloom on July 12. It was the 22nd of July. Had two of the seedlings and their pictures mixed up. Could tell because the July 12th picture was planted in the garden and this brug was planted at the very edge.
So does this one have a name Brugie?
This one is Strawberry Creme. She is a tough old gal. Never gives up. I hated to cut her back this fall. She was loaded with buds.
so pretty!!! and I love that name!
Thanks Kell. Just sounded a little different from the norm.
