Kelley... good job! looked like u got a Black Currant Swirl or commonly known as Cornocopia [sp?] Datura there. this one is the most fragrantf amongst all the datura i grow. the fragrance is more prominent in the afternoon and evenings. Congratulations!!!

the ones i grow, are 4' tall and have several blooms on them at the moment.

Kelley!!! hasn't anyone told you that's a weed?Lol............

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I only consider it a weed if it is the tiny lavender flower. LOL Looks like MaVie is right and you have one of the good ones. I grew that last year and it was beautiful! I am waiting for my Double Golden Queen to do something. Forgot her in the hoopster. sniff sniff Evening Fragrance is taking over like it always does. ;)

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

u're right Chele :). the "weed" sure spread fragrance all over the garden here in Hesperia, in the absence of brug blooms. till the brugs i grow decide to bloom for me, i have to contend with the Datura fragrance.

no offense Arlene, i know u are joking too.:)!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

was trying to get a rise out of kell.... i don't think people are hard enough on her.
i grew this for a couple of years and thought it was so exotic, i guess it is. they are short lived, my friend's grew huge huge! but only lasted 3 seasons. now i have to save my room for brugs.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I am usually quite the smarty pants, trying to get a rise out of people but I am not as *comfortable* on this forum as I am others. :) I have been growing Datura for about six years and I did get the joke. LOL This is my first year for Brugs so I try not to get in the way tooooooo much. I am excited about them none the less. So, should I try to give Kell a hard time? LMBO She seems delightful.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Badseeds, first please be comfortable here, we are glad you are here, especially if you can get a rise out of someone who grows 30 foot sanguineas that never quit blooming.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Amen Arlene!! Ought to be a law against growing them that big!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Thirty feet? You mean that is it?? Has the girl never heard of manure, bone meal, blood meal, fish poop soup???? Man, she sucks! I'm in zone 6 and mine is already 50 feet tall! Err, oh, five feet tall, but I am in zone 6 and growing my first batch of brugs! (Okay, is that better? LOL)

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

unfortunately, growing them high and robust in No. Californi is the norm for brugs. Chele imagine in the midst of winter, u see the blooms lined for blocks and blocks. as u stroll each block it would seem like the entire neigborhood is flowing with strong, yet lovely fragrance.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

there you go Michele, good start!!! LOL!
hey kell,

you have mail!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hey Arlene....it is Liz's job to be mean to me.......... I am crushed!!! You are inciting combat.........for shame on you!!! Did anyone ever tell you that you are a brug snob??

And tiG, you lied!! not nice to say those words to me and then have it NOT be true!! You are in trouble now!

Badseed do not listen to them............ they are BAD!
MaVie and Waterlilly are my only friends it seems!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

combat, is that a bug spray? kelley, you make me laugh so! when you have no more weeds i will send you lots of brugs to take their place!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

you will have my list soon Arlene, then I will do away with my "weeds"!!! LOL I didnot realize my purple weed here could live 3 years........what zone?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Kelley ... i am in zone 8, datura's do die and dry up in the winter months. but soon as weather warms up, they come back to life. this is the 2nd year they come back for me. from what Arlene mentioned, i still have 1 more year to enjoy them :). i don't have to replant another seed. Not!!! i love this particular one for their fragrance. so i will be planting more next year. so far, datura flowers are always there to bloom ahead of the brugs.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

hi Ma Vie.......I will be reading all my email soon...........
so they regrow from their roots? All different kinds of them?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

so far, the white one and this one did come back from me. i made a mistake with the yellow one and throw it away. but next spring i will observe if the other colors will also come back. no problem. take ur time.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Kell, I can't believe you didn't name me as your friend too. BTW, You've got Mail.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

kell, you wanted to be surprised. well, didn't not getting mail surprise you??? LOL!!

Kelley,
I'm crushed along with Cala....Cala she is just a fair weather friend.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL, you guys, ummm girls are just too much! Kelly, I am in zone 6 and the Datura winter over and come back for me too, even self seed. They do die back and I just cut them to the ground in spring. They leave behind a huge turnip like root.
MaVie, if you would like me to check, I may still have seeds for Double Golden Queen and Double Purple and I don't know what else. I forgot to save seeds from Cornocopia last year and am waiting to see which seedling are which. Unfortunately I was duped into some of the lavender weeds last year so I am ripping them out as soon as they bloom. Not enough flower for the space they take up.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Cala.............. I was a fearful you were going to have the fat police (that seem to be everywhere these days) arrest me for having an obese brug! But since you proclaim friendship and said those magic words AND ACTUALLY MEANT THEM (hey,tiG).........PLEASE forgive me!
And Glory, where have you been? You know you are a favorite of mine!!! Hey, I tried to pollinate with you.........how more friendly can we be??? (HUH?)
Badseed, thanks for all the info. Which ones are the lavender? So are they really called weeds...........you mean Arlene was just not joshing me? LOL I will not mind these weeds! So do I have to pollinate them to get seeds or do they do their business on their own? thanks

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Chele ... i have some yellow ones which are triple bloom. i am no exactly sure if the are the yellow queen though. i have some seeds that are mislabeled though :(. u know how it is... traders or friends who share them simply mislabel them only for their colors. i will surely save u some seeds with the right ID.

Kelley, if not mistaken, datura do self pollinate, or is it the busy bees that pollinate them? i just woke up, my brain is still very foggy. LOL!!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I know my white ones are night blooming and pollenated by moths. Most of the colored ones bloom during the day so must be pollenated by bees. I have never tried to pollenate myself or do any crosses. Is it Tonny that also grows a lot of Datura? I haven't spent enough time on this forum to be familiar with everyone but I do read a *bit*. LOL I think most of the ones I have gotten in trades were mislabelled. gasp. I have spent some time pouring over the Erwoid site though.
Kell, there are only two so far I consider weeds-the plain white ones and the lavender with the purple tick marks inside. Both self seed like mad. The white ones smell good and have a good fragrance so they are okay. The lavender ones I am talking about have a very tiny flower, huge maple/oak type leaves and no fragrance at all! My favorite for scent is the 'Evening Fragrance'. It has huge flowers with purple edges and smells very heavily of perfume. It does winter over and self seeds A LOT though. lol

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

weeds make seeds in a heart beat, not like the snobby brugs who are very particular. kell, it if it doesn't get frosted it will probably get very large for you, short lived perennial, might live more than 3 years if it doesn't frost, don't know.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Good morning Arlene!! I do frost here........... sad but true but not as much as you!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Kell, how can you say it's my job to be mean to you? I am NEVER mean. How demeaning! I am destructively supportive.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I stand humbly corrected Miss Lizzy!
