Thunbergia erecta

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I like this one too, there is a more purple variety, but I lost it last year. This bloom is on the very bottom of the plant.

Cala I need your help with this one.

I recieved a cutting about 3 weeks ago from a nursery, she was cutting it down and I asked for a piece, the nice lady gave me one :-)

Is it normal that it just gets something like a callus but no roots? it's still green but otherwise nothing.

Is there a chance for it to make roots? I have a piece in water, one in soil and the other in vermiculite and perlite.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

It's a lighter version of "Battiscombei"????? Elaine

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Zameluzza, yes, that's normal. Now, quit messing with it!!!
1601, thunbergia erecta isn't a vine. It's a floppy shrub. The leaves are smaller too, but the blooms are similar.

Alfred, ON(Zone 4b)

OK! OK! I will stop messing with it *LOL*

cala what is a floppy shrub?
the plant I've got cuttings from was labelet Thunbergia erecta but it was climbing like mad! all twisting like a MG does!
could it be that it was labeled wrong? and at the end it's a thunbergia blue sky vine? that would be great to *LOL*

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Cala, this has to be what I had posted a ID question about a while back. Mine had the white bloom and now I have one with a purple bloom, but not Thunbergia Battiscombei. Definitely a floppy shrub. Not hardy though, are they? I mean to my zone 5.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Brugie, no, they aren't hardy here in zone 7. Zameluzza, sounds like you got a t. grandiflora. A floppy shrub is one that won't stand up very good sort of like an abutilon or allamanda, they won't twine but aren't strong enough to stand upright without staking.

Alfred, ON(Zone 4b)

thanks cala for explaining this to me :)

I hope it's a grandiflora. I always wanted one.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Well, if you find out you don't have grandiflora, email me.

Hi everyone! I live in Hawaii and have lots of Thunbergia Erecta. I could send rooted cuttings or volunteer seedlings if you want. Just e-mail me.

Cala, I have one exactly the same one (same colour) and I'm growing on a wire trellis on a 4 ft wall. I think I wrote about it in another thread. I could not take a photo.
