I'll try to get some cuttings from this to root this fall. I love it too. Hope I can get through the winter inside.

Poppysue, I brought solanum cuttings from the Bay Area and had great luck getting them to root, they wouldn't be hardy here either. Mine is purple. Your blue is very pretty.

Gosh, that's beautiful!!! Keep me in mind if you get some cuttings?

Isn't this a vigorous climbing plant? These photos make it look almost like a shrub. I was thinking about on for the hardware cloth wrapped around my downspout to the gutter. What do you think? I hear it is a fast grower. This spot would be in partial sun.

I think it climbs by sticking to it's support with the thorns on it's leaves and stems. As far as I remember, it didn't have any tendrils or twine around a support like other vines. It's more like a climbing rose. It is a vigorous grower but not hardy here. I only had it for one season. The blue flowers are wonderful.

Solanum seaforthianum is a true climber and also a vigorous grower. You might want to check that one out too. http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/31445/index.html
