Today after some much needed rain, I went out to check my brugs and found that there is a Y on HG now with a couple of tiny buds forming. What a surprise. Made my day. Now I just have to hope that they will mature and do something for me. Thanks Susie. I'm so excited about this one. I keep mine in morning sun only. I don't know what it really wants, but this seems to be working for me so far.
HG surprised me today.
so happy for u Shirley :)! hope they bloom for u soon. good luck!
Good for you, Shirley:) My poor HG has not put out a Y yet; am about to give up on it for this summer. Have only had blooms on Dr. Seuss, Versicolor Peach and Jessie Noel. Most of my brugs seem to be very prone to losing their leaves and looking awful.
Owen
I am happy for you, Shirley. :-) That`s great news! What will it be, a month before they ope`?
Owen, do your leaves yellow up or have mis-coloring before falling of? With regard to your HG I think the cutting was taken from a twig coming from the base of the stem. These grow tall before Y`ing. Mine is such cutting. HG puts out a lot of these twigs. Ha! Mine has three so far, besides the ones I cut of. Over 3 ft., but still no Y here either.
Thanks you all. I've just been on cloud 9 since I noticed the overnight change in the plant. Just knowing that it has finally made a Y is exciting. Yes, Tonny, most of the brugs will bloom within a month, but I don't know about this one. First I have to hope that it will retain the buds, unlike my Culebra. I was so excited when my Culebra buds reached over 3 inches long and then to have them fall off was quite a disappointment. Maybe this HG brug will be nice to me.
Congratulations! good for you! And through all your heat too.
Liz, yesterday and today have cooled a lot. I doubt that we got over 70 degrees today. Very welcome along with over a half inch of rain.
Shirley congratulations! I will keep my fingers crossed the buds stay on. I think you sent your heat up here. It's been in the 90's yesterday and today. The rest of the week will be hot also. I'm glad you are starting to get some relief from the heat. You've had it really hot there.
Brugie,
Congrats, I know you must be soooooo excited!! Lets hope it flowers nicely for you.
Snow, so sorry you are having the heat now. It is really hard on the brug flowers. Thanks all for your comments. Hope you don't get cramps in your fingers crossing them for that long. :-)
Wasn't it snow who still had really cold temps when you were all suffering from the heat? Is it your turn snow?
It's my turn Liz. I was wearing a sweater up here when many were suffering with the heat. Now we'll probably go from temps in the 90's to snow. This crazy weather we've had sure shocks the old body.LOL
Oh Brugie that is exciting news. I can't wait to see the blooms!
We have had horribly hot weather here also, just starting to cool off a liitle. My poor sang has bloomed pale yellow with no pollen at all.
My Brugs all look ragged out from the heat but we are used to that around here....they will perk up again about October.
Brugie . . I am so happy for you and I hope that the buds stay on and bloom completely for you. We will all be anxiously awaiting the outcome.
I can relate to Glory and her brugs. It looks as though I have neglected them completely when in fact they have had daily care. October when it cools will be better for me also because then they will start to look prettier and bloom better.
Owen,
I just read that extensive leaf loss is due to lack of nutrients and or water.
Yes, the leaves just turn yellow and then fall off. I water regularly with full strength Miracle Grow. Don't see any bugs on them. Have no idea what is going on.
Owen
Maybe too much fertilizer. Mine are growing and flowering great and I only use MG q 1 to 3 weeks foliar feed and I throw peters down once in a while. You know there can be fertilizer build up in the soil, I understand. Maybe if you added some good compost and hold the fertilizer a while it may help. When things are not going right, I always stop what I am doing and do the reverse. Well maybe not always, LOL.......but I should!!
ms kell, you are off work again????? lucky you!!!!
soil is so relative. i used to believe the thing about not fertilizing morning glories and stuff like that, in my soil they don't last a week without fertilizer. i used to think some things weren't getting enough sun but it turns out it was just cruddy soil, even with compost/peat added. i think MG has minors in it which should help. mine seem to be losing leaves/yellowing on the ones that get dried out.
i ran into an old buddy who had 2 mohs yesterday, yikes the scars!
Congratulations Brugie!!
We are having a cool spell here today, it's only 89* instead of 99, lol. They keep promising rain, but I think it passed us by again. Owen, sounds like your brugs have been too dry. The yellowing won't show up immediately, sometimes it takes up to a week for the yellowing to start.
Thanks Everyone. Cala, I sure hope yours does something and I wish everyone could have some milder temps and adequate rainfall. This has been a very unusual summer for the whole US.
Brugie, I'm hoping yours does great too!! Wouldn't it be something if they opened on the same day?
I'm just hoping we can get them to the stage it takes to open. Maybe since the temps will be cooling off in a couple of week, it will help.
Brugie - it's been unusual everywhere - have you seen on the news what's happening near Monika?? They're under water.
A terrible thing.
Liz, I rarely hear the news because I'm outside working, but did catch that a lot of people have drowned due to all the flooding. Horrible, so I guess we aren't experiencing it as bad as it could be.
Hi Arlene, no i was just goofing off again this am and went in way too late. I will get fired at this rate.........LOL...then I will spend all day here and in the garden. An di willb eskinny for I will not be able to buy food and fertilizer for my brugs! Sounds like a plan. I took tons of pics this AM also......... I am addicted to the camera now. But I need to find out how to get more than 24 or 32 on it before I have to download. i am going to have to break down and read the instruction book I guess.......... which i hate!! If i can find it!
