capers: capparis spinosa

Rethymno, Crete, Greece(Zone 10b)

I saw fruit maturing on this spectacular wild-growing herb today.

Would anyone like seeds ??

Dimitri,

Just so you know, the USDA is now enforcing its seed importation rules. This means that to legally send seed of any kind to the U.S. you need a pytosanitary certificate. These tend to be expensive.

What this means is they are effectively putting an end to the legal sharing of seed between home gardeners in the U.S. and the rest of the world.

We can send to you, but you can't send to us.

However, if you want to smuggle seeds to somebody, chances are you can get away with it. John Yeoman came up with a great method. Put the seed inside a magazine, and send the magazine as a gift. With a bit of imagination, there are other simple ways.

It is a great pity, if it is true.

Dave, what do you know about it ??

Please let me know, as I am preparing a big lot to go out tomorrow.

Dimitri - I've got several trades from other countries and haven't had any problems. Someone recently sent me seeds in a regular envelope from Finland. I've only heard one or two people mention their seeds were confiscated.

Brook - have you found more info on the regulations? The last I read was that most seeds were Okay. There were only certain seeds that were restricted and couldn't be imported.

Poppysue,

Were Evert's seeds marked as seeds? Or did he just send them as first class mail?

Don't know where you heard that only certain seeds were restricted. The regulation says that _all_ imports of seed and other plant propagative material requires a phytosanitary permit.

Far as I know, rules enforcement began on July 22; after a delay from the initial announcement of January 20.

Would love to try these. Check and see if there's anything else I can send you.

Thanks
Penny

I would also love to try them. I tried to take cuttings earlier this summer from a friends plant but they didn't make it. I have some of my offers listed but I also have a lot more seeds available.

Please send me email and keep in mind that I don't have the seeds in my hands yet.

It will be a pleasure to find some for you both, onecent and Studley

Dimitri, I'm also in the queue. I'll mail you. Thanks.

If you're still taking seed "orders" I'd like to trade for some please. :-) What are you looking for in exchange?
Thanks! Deborah

Dimitri,
Are you still planning on mailing seed? Are you concerned about exporting seed to USA? I would still love some if they are ready.

Please add me to your list too.

If you are interested in trading for anything else, let me know.

Thanks!
