O.K. gang.....here is my problem...I got several cuttings of brugs in the mail today and haven't a clue what would be the best way to plant.....Leaves are very wilted of course and the cut part is dried over soooo what should I do first...Put in water or put in rooting compound and put in soil..Would like to get a couple to grow anyway....thanks
Cuttings
Bluepoppy, if cuttings are made and put in water for a while, packed with wet paper taowels and taped/tied with plastic and/or tin foil they shouldn arrive without being wilted.
if there are lots of leaves on the cuttings, cut off most of them, and put the cuttings in water to revive. the more leaves a cutting has the faster it will root as compared to no leaves will take longer to root. too many leaves it will die.
woody cuttings root pretty easy in water, when they get the little white root starts you can plant in soil. green and hard to root cuttings will rot in water.
i root everything in soil now. sometimes i've had cuttings tilt over almost to the soil, but if i am patient and do not overwater they root!
i moisten potting soil in the pot, punch a hole stick the cutting in and firm the soil around it and don't water again for a day or two.
good luck.
