Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Hello, farmers. Another very pleasant day here. I had to take dd to the docs this morning with a possible case of strep throat that she caught from her dd, so it has been not as much outdoor time as I had hoped. However,I THINK I have the database done and ready for the cut and paste up so I can get it to the Extension office! What a task! I am not a tables and reports person, but I have conquered one more piece of the computer puzzle and I'm feeling pretty good about that.

I spent some time helping with the physical part of the farm today, as well. We had a cow drop a dead calf. Stan went down to get the cow, but in the process some of the other ladies in waiting crashed the gate and got in with the milking herd. We had to separate them, get the cows in the barn and then keep the very expectant heifer behind the barn while sending her friends back down the lane. the 2 that stayed in the lane were no problem, but Snoopy was a different story. Fortunately, I dazzled her with my ability to fall down and jar myself silly while at the same time rolling in the only fresh manure for 5 or 6 square feet! She was so amazed that she turned the wrong way and when I got up, I was able to head her back to the lane and shut the gate. Then I went in and helped Stan get the last 2 cows into their stalls, tied up a couple and came in and changed. The clothes - really going to town jeans and shirt rather than work clothes - are in the washer soaking. I think they will recover faster than I will - I did a good job on my left should and spine. What fun!

take good care,
Kathleen
