Please help for my disappointed father

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

My dad's first houseplant was a Christmas Cactus from our former housekeeper. He has had it more than 20 years, loved it, cared for it, enjoyed its temperamental bloom cycle. Last summer something decided it was delicious, ate almost all the leaves. The silly cactus bloomed on July 4! Must have thought 'now or never'. Well, whatever ate it before REALLY loved the flowers, because the next day there were only the withered brown stalks left. I brought it inside, gave it lots of TLC, it grew leaves all fall, winter spring. This summer I hung it from a tree, hoping to keep it from harm's way; Tuesday something ate all the leaves again. I just don't think it will survive this one :(

Does anyone have a piece of a Christmas Cactus to share for my very disappointed dad? And anybody volunteer to come prepared to trap whatever finds the Christmas Cactus irresistible? I think 'Shoe would be a great one for this mission, LOL. Or maybe just put peanut butter all over the place to keep it away!

Lupie, I used to have Christmas cactus too, the squirrels LOVE them. Ate them to little nubs. Then chewed on the wires of the baskets and then ate the baskets. Hungry little buggers.
