Okay, won't bore you anymore with brug pictures from Iowa. Just wanted you to see Dr. Suess this morning. He is a happy camper for sure.
My Doctor today.
bore me dear, cause mine aren't doing much
Keep them coming, bore us - we love it.
sigh, still waiting on mine, 8 stalks, some 8 feet tall.... hopefully a show someday. this one overwintered in your garage, right?
Gorgeous! Do you have a lot this size? You must have to leave your car outside in the winter if you store them all in the garage.
Same here Arlene, I finally found 2 small y's strting.
It's beautiful Brugie. I can just image the aroma in the evening and early morning. I wish I had one that big blooming!!
We have a spare garage attached to Jim's heated shop. This is where I put the brugs for the winter, but last winter Jim did a little too much watering and I lost most of them. Lucky for me I keep cuttings in the house. This is one of the survivors. I know that Dr. Suess isn't a favorite, but he does know how to show off. Hope yours blooms soon Arlene. This is my second BIG flush of blooms, but he usually has bloom all the time. Just not a lot. Frannie, since my flowers are north of the deck, I usually go out and pick a few blooms to sit on the table beside my deck chair so I can enjoy the fragrance every night. Love the smell of them.
wow Brugie.....lovely!
Wow,why can't I get any of mine to look like this??I thought it was a northern thing, but yours proves That its possible!
CC, I'm still waiting on the brug you sent me to put on buds, so not all is rosey here yet. I hope it is as pretty as the other picture I posted.
Very special Brugie.............
Wow! That's a beauty.
i love dr suess. just disappointing, 3rd year, last year this plant was blooming end of june. 3 blooms so far this year. it's close to 8 feet, sure it will put on a show once it starts. used the rest of a 20 pound bag of azalea fertilizer yesterday, started on a 2.00 bag of 6-6-6 cheapo grass fertilizer i bought at a yard sale today.... i've used 120 plus pounds of granular fertilizer and about 20 pounds of MG type this year.
just wish all the JOs and CGs i thought i had hadn't been dr suess, like you, i still have more than my share...
I wonder what that does to your ground water. I know there have been serious problems in the Central Valley where there are bodies of water below farms so the run off goes into it. Insecticides also add to this problem.
Kell - You haven't seen all the brugs Arlene has. She has aver 100 and they are spread out over a pretty large area and with the Florida sand she has for soil - there has to be fertilizer added or really not much but Palmettos and trees would grow.
Gosh Arlene, feeding your brugs is about like feeding a family of four. I had to quit when it got so hot. Just couldn't take it, even early morning wasn't comfortable. Can any of you give me a description of the bloom and leaves of Jam. Yellow?
Almost forgot.....One of my Dr. Suess plants has really strange blooms. They are yellow and white mottled. Really strange, because all the blooms are that way. Kinda looks like someone splashed Clorox on them.
Azalea, Oh I was not just talking about Arlene, I am heavyhanded with the fertilizer also! But I do wonder what I am doing to the environment. People ask me how do I get my yard to look like I do.........and I say FERTILIZE FERTILIZE FERTILIZE. In retrospect they might be really commenting on how I let my yard look like that.......
Brugie, please post a picture!
my bananas and cannas are on the drain field, these use up our waste and that bed takes very little fertilizer. i try to add peat/black kow when i plant. holes done this year mostly have watersorb which are supposed to help hold fertilizer. part of the reason it took so much, 60 pounds of it was cheap. the osmocote i feel sure is used up before it hits our water table. our well is about 90 feet deep. last year osmocote was almost all i used and it didn't take as much, but then again i have WAY more brugs now....
environmentally, osmocote time release has to be the way to go.
Too bad osmocote is so expensive! I could go broke on what I spend for my yard. My DH just got the Discover card bill for HD and Lowes last night. Let us just say their were words and they were not the kiss kiss hug hug kind of words.........
kell, if you look around you can probably get it for about 1.00 or a little more a pound in 50 pound bags and with your relatively low temps it should last a very long time. it is good to use a light coat on seedings before they come up (the way i plant them) or soon after, and also cuttings!
Kell, the brug with the yellow and white color is so tall that I can't get a good picture and then the sky is the background to boot. I've tried a couple of times, but it just doesn't work. Will email you the best one I have.
I will have to look around, I think I pay $2.00 a pound at Lowes, Arlene. What kind of places should I look at? Nurseries are outrageous.
I can't say I feel sorry for you Brugie, that your brug is just too tall for pictures.......LOL
Kell, have pitty.......it is the only one that is tall and that is because it was last year's brug that didn't get cut back. Do you want me to send you a web site that sells Osmocote? It is expensive with shipping, so I'd think you could get a better deal right at home. Problem here is that I have to drive 50 miles to get it and then it isn't in large quantities and still expensive.
Oh brugie, i was going to tell you to drive on out here and deliver it........LOL
Right!!
