a surprise tonight in the brug garden!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have 2 plants I bought each labeled gold suaveolens from the same grower. I bought the second one because I had just read a posting on Dave's that talked about how rare a plant was with serrated leaves, and being ignorant, when I later saw serrated leaves on a brug in the store, I thought I had come upon a rare plant and scooped it up and carried it home thrilled beyond wonder. Then only to find out that my leaves were not what all the WOWS on Dave's was about. So tonight it snuck in a bloom and it is so different from the first gold suaveolens. Now I am wondering if the grower is using seeds and not cuttings for propagation which would explain each one being different. I just love how recurved the new one's petals are!

Does anyone know why my enlarged photo is so surreal looking? My picture here on my computer does not look like that!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Kell, neither one of those is suavolens IMO, which doesn't mean a lot. some people have all the luck!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Kell, go to the reading room! those are vertical blooms!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Arlene?? IMO?? SO I am lucky they are not? Explain please! Do you love the first one? But it does not have 6 points. Unfortunately, I sent you a piece of the second one.......... LOL.

Liz............I am afraid my DH moved the newspapers out of the reading room along with my book.........and it is bye bye............. he hated me reading in the reading room. He hates brug brugs everywhere. Do you think he had a plan?
Earlier tonight, I was just trying to learn how to pronounce it (swah-vee-OH-lens) just in case it came up at my next dinner party!.......so I haven't gotten to the leaves look like part! LOL this is true!

Note to Kell: vertical blooms are not indicative of suaveolens

I love the second one. It has such a pretty color. Did I get lucky and get a piece of it? If not, I'd like one later this fall, if you have extra. Yes, I'm brave.....just asked instead of hinting. :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes you did get one already Miss Brugie........... LOL!!
And had I known the first one was going to be different you also would have gotten a piece of htat. The color is dark pumkin on the second one.
I am wondering if the first one still has recurved petals today. Last night I noticed my CG has brand new blooms and they were so recurved they were turned back up and touching. And then they must come back all the way down.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

would sure love to work up a trade for cuttings of both in the fall if you're going to take cuttings.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Your box is growing tiG!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Kell. Wish someone would put names to these brugs for you.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

kell, hoping you'll see something else you love as mine start heavy blooming;)

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Very pretty Kell. The top one appears to be very long - is it?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hey Kell, did you get mail from me today? Need to know so if you don't I can write my server again. If not, the box arrived and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the cuttings and the plant. You are so nice to do this. Need to know what the plant is. Don't recognize the foliage. Thanks again for the cuttings and to have one with a bloom about to open is cool.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sorry, Brugie......I was going to answer after work.......I am so late........... as usual!! As I did get them.....but I have to look up that 1 plant's name I sent before I answer you.......LOL.......and was too short on time to do it........but here I still am at the computer again instead of heading to work. I get up take a shower, stop at computer, I get up iron my clothes, stop at computer again, I get up and water outside, and stop at computer again. I get up and clean the bird cage and cut up all sorts of goodies for her.........and sit at the computer again. I get up and feed the cats, and then sit back down at the computer again..........and now I am all dressed, clean and shining and had to stop just 1 more time before I get up and GET OUT THE DOOR!!!! and the day is half over! It is the plant that was on LBJ's homepage for ages.........the white, green and pink vine........I just love it!! had to share it with you! Will find name later............I AM REALLY LEAVING NOW!!! PS........I have to leave work early tonight for sushi sushi............ LOL. I should just stay home!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

hehehe, sounds like my days:) except I don't work, just babysit.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh Kell, how many hours a day do you finally work. Starting out this late and leaving early for date night doesn't leave much time for work. Wish I could have got by with that when I worked. I guess it isn't horribly late by your time. Here it is about time to start thinking about what to have for supper. I'm not thinking very hard today either.

Will wait for an email. Thanks, and don't work too hard today! :-]

Kell, i mean you are lucky to have misnamed plants that are so pretty. now is the second one similar to charles grimaldi?

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Very pretty flowers--I like the bottom one for its intense color. Is it that intense or is it the photo? So nice.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

True Brugie, I work less and less...........but it helps to have worked there for years and know where all the bodies are buried........LOL!!! As it worked out, i got in after noon a little and left after 6PM......no lunch!!! My kid ended up meeting us late for sushi so I stayed!! But I am taking the next 2 days off...........YES YES YES........my boss, the Doctor is on vacation.........LOL!!!

Anywya..........Arelen.........you hav email!

The color is a rich pumpkin on the second picture and in real life. The only difference in the brugs that I see is that the CG opens light colored and recurved and then slowly gets darker and darker till dark pumkin and the second day it is not very recurved. Very long lasting flowers, a great brug. Mystery plant Bottom.......starts out as a dark pumpkin looks just like CG looks after 3 days. Mystery brug 1, started very recurved and apricot and then this AM was the same shape and color CG is on the second day............... CONCLUSION!!! THEY ARE ALL CGS!!!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL!!! then just send me one and not all three!!! (I think you might be right, you know)

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

LOL kell. I've got CG and Dr Suess popping up everywhere too.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

kell, the CG bloom looked exactly like the second pic, which made me curious. welcome to the quadruplicate club........

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have them all over my yard....LOL! But they are really great plants thank goodness. They bloom profusely, lovely aroma and grow quickly. You can have them as a multi trunk or as a huge thick single trunk. there are different colored blooms on one plant depending on how old htat bloom is. The color gets dark and is all the way up the flower. It is one great brug!!!
