EP X WJP

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kyle shared some seeds with me back in Feb. or March. This is what the first one looks like. The picture is at our kitchen table. This bloom is huge. From the beginning of the peduncle to the bottom of the corolla measures 21 and a quarter inches. It stood up to the heat today when others wouldn't. Smells great too. I know, it is another white, but it is very pretty, especially since it was given to me by a friend. Still waiting on the others to bloom, so maybe there will be something else to post a picture of soon. By the way, no dead brugs today. Things are looking much better now.

wonderful flower, and so very very glad there are no dead brugs. What shape did this have on the plant? that's a big flower!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

So glad to hear your Brugs are doing better. That is a big bloom and also very pretty. Out of all the Brugs I have I only have two whites, c. dbl. white and v. Alba. The three cuttings I got last year that were marked suav. White bloomed this week and turned out to be Dr Suess's.LOL. I still think whites are beautiful and and look great mixed in with the darker colors. And to get it from a friend makes it so special.

It's good to hear that the brugs are recovering.
Help me out Brugie - brain isn't working - WJP?? White Jean Pasco?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

tiG, this one hangs like a versicolor. With the EP as mom, sounds reasonable to me. The plant is very upright and has no side shoots, but maybe that is because it was from seed. I have never paid attention to characteristics of the brugs before. Just looked at one and thought it was pretty and then WANT set in. Sure wish it had developed a little color though.

Yes, Liz. You got it right. Your brain is working better than mine!!

Snow, sounds like you have three varieties now with a lot of duplication. Kind of like me and 5 Dr. S. Bummer, but he is still a pretty brug.

Ms. Brugie, first day bloom? possible to take a couple of days to turn color? it does look pretty, my neck got stiff trying to look at it sideways, imagining how it hangs on the plant. i took a couple of pics, will post tomorrow.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

That looks like a beauty you have there. Glad to hear your brugs are doing better.

I just didn't post the picture of the plant because there were only about three blooms hanging there at this point. Sorry about that. I should have posted the one where I hung the flower in the Battiscombei plant. Purple and white look good together. :-)

Will be watching for some new pictures tomorrow Arlene.

Brugie, I'm so glad your other brugs are thriving. That's a beautiful flower, keep us posted to see if it changes colour. I'm sure you're feeling much better today now that you have no more wilting.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Brugie, a beautiful flower. If the plant has a upright growth, it would make a wonderful tree.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Monika, this one is growing very upright and straight. The trunk is already huge. I'm trying to decide if I want to try to dig it up or just take a cutting later this fall. Digging is such hard work. I do have a friend who would come and dig for me. He was here last night and told me if I needed any help, just to call. This trip out from town, he brought me the tub from two clothes washers. They will make excellent brug planters.

Jeanne, it is still white today except where the cucumber beetles have chewed on the blooms and they have turned brown. I don't know what to do about those beetles. They are just eating me out of flowers.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Don't you just hate them Brugie? For some reason they seem to have disappeared around here. I had them and I was killing them as soon as I saw them. I left their little squeezed carcass on the leaves as a warning! I wonder if it worked? LOL.......I also used that bayer systemic for tree and shrubs on my bigger brugs and the holes stopped!!! Maybe they took 1 bite from the wrong plant!

in past years I would just have to spray once........I think malathion.............

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell I just wish they would eat the leaves, but NO, they have to eat the flowers. Nasty little critters. If they are cucumber beetles, why don't they just eat the cukes and leave the rest alone....... :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

and to think the first time I ever saw them I thought how cute.............little yellow lady bugs.......and then soon I was murdering the little suckers!!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

White is pretty and the best of all is its ability to tolerate the heat and that is a big plus.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yes Frannie, but how do we breed them so that the bugs and worms don't like them. It seems like a continuous fight around here and it is too hot to stand out in the heat squishing bugs and worms. :-) Sorry I haven't written for a few days, but time seems to fly and I don't know where I'm supposed to be or what I should do next. Usually when that happens, I end up at Daves. :-)
