Found some impressive pink blooms on a friend's private property in central MI. Thought they might be Lady's Slipper, though I have no idea where I had heard the name before. I have no wildflower book, so have been searching the web for a photo to confirm the name. Sure enough, this photo fits. I found probably 12-18 in a four acre area of mainly pine forest. Jack pine mostly with some cherry and oak trees. Are these rare? Are they protected?
