Remember the Bananas we bought from Earls in March...here is one that I have in a pot...lots of babies on it.
Yellow Chinese Banana from Earls
Will this always be a potted plant or can it be put outside to stay? That is one healthy looking plant. I have a hardy banana for zone 5. Going to hold one of the pups in the house in case momma doesn't make it. Just love the way bananas look.
mine is doing well, but not near that big. We put it in a former bog garden, very small place that's lined with plastic, so I know it's roots aren't spreading right. we're moving it tomorrow, hope it can do as nice as yours!
Mine tried to die when I first got them. Now they are growing, but not nearly this big.
Shirley,
I don't really know how cold hardy this one is....I have another one in the ground by the gazebo and plan on leaving it there over winter. I will keep this one in this pot and put it in the GH for winter.
tiG,
I threw some 34-0-0 on this one and it took off....lucky I didn't burn it with the 34-0-0.
Here is a site that might give you a little more info on it:

I've seen that page before but wasn't certain it was ours. thanks!!
Mine isn't half that big. no babys eighter have it planted in amoung my canna's blends in good hopping it gets higher than the cannas soon
I remember when these sold for $200 each a few years ago..tillthey tissue cultured them..now common in catalogs..amazing how quick rare can become common these days..look at some species brugs.
Kyle,
I had read that somewhere about the yellow banana but when I saw them for sale at Earls I knew someone had figured out a way to mass produce them. I tried to separate a pup from the mother but had a hard time getting a root....finally just gave up. Any suggestions on getting root and all on a pup?
Glory...not a clue on this one..maybe try to part way slice down thru the pup at the trunk and wait a few weeks for the pup to produce new roots to compensate for the wound???Worth a try! :-)
Kyle,
I'll give that a try tomorrow...never thought about doing that. I guess I'll also try that method on the regular old banana trees. A trader here wants some pups off my other banana trees and I can never dig them when they are small and get any roots.
Glory,
Your yellow bananna is hardy. The ones in the yard here come back after the freeze. It will put out many pups in the spring. The bumblebees love it.
Barb,
Do you already have this one?
Yes, do you need one?
No, I have a couple ...thought you might need one.
