DH is dying for a hot pink one, I'd love any color! lmk, I have some perennials, but mostly brugs or would send postage.
wanted: dwarf cannas
I have dwarf yellow, are you still interested?
I have hot pink and China Doll. They both have seed pods.
tiG - I'll be able to share some dwarfs this fall. They're un-named from a bag of mixed bulbs. It's not HOT but I have this pink one - http://davesgarden.com/journal/viewentry/18435/index.html
oh, that would be lovely, thank you!!!
Love that one poppysue, want to trade?
Gloria, I'd like to trade something for a start of your cannas. Guess you know my email addy, don't you? :-)
Whew! Kids just went to motel, will be back tomorrow.
Yes, Shirley, you know I will share anything I have. Let's see, do I have your e-mail addy? ha!
Shirley,do you want some red ones?
Tig,I split pretoria, will be shipping this week.....
CC, sure. I'm looking for the kind that have the big flowers. I'd like to have a bed of cannas just like Alice has. Nothing like being a copy cat. Let me know what you would like in return or I can do postage. By the way, your Pink Beauty is just now starting to set some buds. Can't wait to see it bloom. I probably set it back when I was having the brug problem and dug it up and potted it, but wanted to be sure to save it.
Brugie, do you dig yours up and bring them inside in the winter?
Hi Pebble,
Yes, in Iowa we have to dig them up. Not looking forward to that job either. Almost need a backhoe to get some of them out of the ground. I usually just shake the dirt off, cut the tops off and mark them. Then throw them into those potato or onions sacks and put them on the floor in the fruit room in the basement. Just enough moisture in there to keep them nice over the winter.
Brugie, thanks for the tip - I guess I will dig them up too then. I have some in a pot, can I just bring it inside? or do I have to dig them up?
tiG, I have red and yellow if you still want some. Email me if you do.
thanks Roz, with the trades I made and the seeds DH got from Parks, we're set. thank you anyway!!
I would have offered sooner, but I really thought the bugs had eaten them beyond recognition, until I got up in there and there really are little healthy looking sprouts. Next Fall, you may want Tropicana, which is really not a dwarf, I don't think but stays much smaller than my really and truly dwarfs! Got orange foliage and orange bloom, but not as hardy as the other ones.
thank you, I'll keep that in mind.
Pebble, you can leave them in the pot, but I'd rather dig them for storing so there is no chance of them rotting in the soil. You would want to replant them next year anyway because they are probably root bound in the pot and need to be thinned so they will have room to grow more tubers next year.
ahhhh...ok, I will then....egads, I am going to be busy this fall digging up cannas, repotting brugs and bringing them inside...oh the life of a gardener....
Brugie, watch out for those reds from CC. I got some from her and those are some big momma's. They are as tall as I am and I don't think I have ever seen tubers that size. Will take picture tomorrow and post
Dee,
Where have you been??
Connie,
Been to Chicago for the last 2 weeks. Done traveling for awhile now.
Oh that's right, I forgot about that trip. Know you are glad to be home for a bit.
Thanks Dee, I'm really just looking for dwarfs now. I have a tall one or two, but I want a bed of the shorter varieties. Alice had such a pretty picture of her short varieties. Sure glad you are back home. Will write you later tonight or tomorrow.
