I have Butterfly in a 10 gallon pot, just Y'ed. Would I be setting it back terribly if I put it in the ground now??

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Tig, think about how those bare roots traveled, and think setting it in late in the day and watering it in good. mine gets tons of sun, 10 hours a day i think along with pink beauty.
btw, was gonna ask..... DS's friend is here this morning while DS is at work, he's planting brugs for me. some of them a little deep. no need to panic, right?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I personally wouldn't think so, it's in the tomato family and you can trench those. we'll see, huh??

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

tig, that's what i'm hoping. i know when planting old garden roses they say bury a little deeper and they'll put out extra roots, hoping so. he planted 8-9 in the ground for me this morning. and i cut back some of those low oak leaves. and i gotta tell azalea the dutchman's pipe, 2 of 3 are putting out new leaves!!! ttyl

Arlene . . I am so glad that you are having help today planting brugs. What a nice guy to help you out. I think I read on this forum that they can be planted a little deeper without harm. I am also glad to read that Butterfly can take that much sun and that Pink Beauty can take alot also. These will probably be some of my favorites and that is a trait that I like. Those are the ones that I would like to cross. Heat tolerance is very important to me.

Edited - thanks to Brugie

BN I hope you mean that they can be plantted a little deeper WITHOUT harm. I think you can do it with no problem, tiG, especially if it has just made the Y. Like Arlene said, late in the day and lots of water. I think it will take the change well. Hoping the roots hold the soil in the ten gallon pot, a large hole to handle it all, and you should be in business.

Yes, brugnanny, such a relief!!!! when it cools off i am going to take the few i have in 1-3 gallons and put them in 7 gallons. Brugie, just picked up DS, stopped at seed and feed. bought me 25 pounds of peters. the bloom booster was $2.00 more so i got the 20-20-20. it does have the minors in it which is good for this sand.
guess i'll say it again i like pink beauty much more than butterfly, you guys are gonna love it.

Arlene, I can't wait for bloom. I have quite a few buds now for the first flush, some deformed due to the heat, but if only one blooms nicely so I can see it in person, I'll be a happy camper. Glad you got your fertilizer. Can't grow those brugs well without it.

Tig, just to let you know, curtis planted 8 brugs between 9:30 and 10:30 or so this morning at 90 plus degrees. jesse noel got planted and has really nice flowers open tonight!! did get a nice rain this afternoon.
Ms Brugie, i used up the 50 pounds of osmocote in about 2 months trying to get enough on everything and it didn't have minors. the peters does so i feel good about getting it. was 22.49 for 25 pounds. their 5 pounds packs were 10.99 so i felt i got a real bargain. with this sand i really need the minors.
can't wait to see your seedling pics, all of you, cool year for brugs!

I wish we'd been able to do ours today, we got a nice long rain too. I'm sitting here on pins and needles, my first seedling from Eric is opening. Even if it's white, it's new, and I'm the first one to ever see it!

tig, can you tell what kind of mix it will be, like versi type, etc? i love every versi/candida type white, don't think i'll let any of those go. what is the cross, can't remember, the insignis gold X BF?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

okay, I'm not real good with those yet, don't have the book. You know how insignis gold gets real fat in the middle of the bloom just before it opens??? is that clear? well, it's like that, I know the donor was Butterfly. this isn't the insignis gold though

TiG,
If you are going to transplant into the ground sprinkle some bonemeal into the soil. It helps to quickly establish roots for transplants. Water heavily and its best to plant after the sun goes done and then again first thing in the morning.

mine ain't white! I think it's peach, it's hard to tell in the dark. Nods like Brugies but the flower isn't the same. it's very ruffly, and the tendrils curl up and to the side, not back on itself. Can't wait to see it in the daylight. and it smells like heaven.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

ms tig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please post a pic in the morning!!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

you know it!!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Bonnie, be sure to post a picture. I like the sound of the ruffly part.
