Pineapple Guava - Feijoa sellowiani

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok, this is a picture of my pineapple guava and the fruit on it now. I have also inserted a picture of the bloom. I will definitely be saving seeds for anyone that wants any. I don't think it is the same as yours Cala because the fruit looks different but it just might be the different stages that the fruit is in. The reason the one I have is called a pineapple guava is because the fruit has a pineapple taste. One small fruit contains 5 times the amount of vitamin c as does an orange. You eat the peeling and all.

I'd love some too.Is the fruit tasty???

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

CC . . I have never tasted it but my friend who gave me my tree has a very large tree probably at least 10-12' and very broad with branches. A lady comes every summer to collect the fruit off of her tree to make jelly or jam. It must be pretty good to go thru all that work. I am anxious for my fruits to get ripe and when they do I will let you know how they taste. I have put you on my list for seeds.

Brugnanny, I'll save you seeds of mine and trade you, lol. Mine does look different, and it's supposed to taste like lemon.

Those flowers are very pretty, I got some cuttings of this from Gwist but they died :(( The fruit is very tasty, sweet strawberry like... I love it. They're just so expensive here :/ Seeds are very small.

Hi BrugNanny,

What is your secret to getting the pinapple guava to bloom and produce fruit? I live in Cypress off of 290 and have had one that I bought from Teas about two years ago in a 5 gal container. I has never bloomed :-(. It is growing in full sun. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Daisy

Great picture! It would make a nice addition to the PDB :)

Daisy, I have mine planted in full sun and I give it plenty of water and I feed it occassionally. A friend of mine who lives in League City has one that is probably 15' tall and just about as wide. It is also produces many flowers and fruit.

I will try and put this in the PBD. Never done it before but have been told it is not difficult at all. I also have other plants that I should put in there.

Thanks for the info BrugNanny...I just keep trying..
