arlene, is it a double? It looks like it!
What happened to the calyx? Hope it will get color, keep my fingers crossed for you. The crippling of the flowers could be caused by heat. The B. suav. flowers at my sisters place have no corollas. They were boiled in the calyx during the heat wave.
Monika, it is a sweet little double with long tendrils, top seem to stick up and the bottom ones down. I am not sure about the calyx, hoping it will out grow them. i had a few calyxes on a few other brugs turn a little brown but not this bad.
Arlene . . this one has such pretty long tendrils. Tell me what is White Pearl a cross of and tell me about Big. Just curious.
love those tendrils. could have turned brown from all the loving caressing touches we all gave it this weekend!! LOL! is this the first night it's open?
Monika, does it look like white pearl? Brugnanny, i have no idea what white pearl looks like except it is a double, i think it is Monika's, not sure. i do like Big. Tig, the second flower opened but the calyx was brown and the top layer of the flower was green! have another will open in a couple of days, hopefully it will be better.
there is also stuffing in the middle where a third layer i think is trying to come out in the flowers so far.
Congrats on the double Arlene. If that one is fertile I would definitly keep it to breed with. You may find it has viable pollen no matter how slight or that the heat simply took its toll on the first bunch.

I also have a Big x White pearl...no Y yet...let's hope mine is a little different..cool.
Arlene, great looking flower. White Pearl x Big are seeds that Monika sent me and I distributed to quite a few people on daves ( when we were still allowed to send seeds across the line). White Pearl is a double hybridized by Monika so she will be able to give you the parentage. Maybe it will turn colour in the next few days. Mine looks great but hasn't Y'd yet. Hopefully by the end of summer as we are behind you guys in Florida.
Lets be honest, any double from seed is cool, but a double from one of Monika's seeds. Now that is something special.

Way to go Arlene. I'm like Jeanne, still waiting for the Y. Have hopes of having a double/triple, but will be happy with whatever I get. Don't feel too bad about the browned calyx because it is happening to a few of mine too. Don't know what the flower inside will do, but probably doesn't have much chance. Mine are browning before bloom. Some of the buds have curled too. 100 degress is hard on everything.

I cut open the old bloom. there are 3 sets of tendrils, should be a triple but the third hasn't dropped yet. the sex organs were totally brown and hard and stuck together. hopefully it will do like creamsickle and settle down. this is the first flower i was half happy with, it is really cute, almost all tendrils.
can't wait to see what it will do in the fall.

Mine is about 5 feet tall - hasn't y'd. Arlene, we all got the seed about the same time - what's your secret?
Liz, i went back and checked, this seed sprouted on 3/17, was planted in a big pot with a larger brug. i transplanted when a few inches tall into a 7 gallon pot. this is one i have kept good fertilizer on.
