my first tropical bed

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I have a 'work-around' with this bed, at the top there is a dwarf weeping maple and it's not even 4'. As it's my DH's pride and joy, I won't move it. So I try to plant low there and work into the height. I love the banana, it's a delight. I see I didn't plant close enough, but used potato vines to fill in so it looks a little fuller.

very nice tiG! will your tropicals stay in the ground for the winter or do you have to move them into a greenhouse?

I'll move most of them. I'll leave the brugs, but that's all (ack, that's the whole bed!)

Cool looking bed tiG. It looks like you have plenty of room to keep expanding. Great looking lawn. Don't know how you take care of it all. I'm growing my first banana this year. It is still pretty small, but has a couple of pups already. Supposed to be hardy to our zone, so I'll keep a pup in the house just in case the one outside doesn't like our cold.

Shirley, with the bed we're going to double (just to the left of this) and what I have already, there is no way I could take care of one more thing. Not doing too well with the weeds now!! It will really help when I redo one of my biggest beds and make it the brug nursery. All those seedlings I have will go in the ground, and that will cut down on the work a lot! sure wish I'd planted this bed thicker:)

Gosh, tIG, that looks just great. Is that stone? Adds a great touch. Man, that must have been some work. You really did a good job.

thanks Roz, that's the pond. DH built it and DD got all the rocks out of the middle of a creek for it.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

tiG . . what a pretty tropical bed. I don't know how you take care of so much including your brugs. You have a very nice spacious place.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

WOW thanks guys!!! Gloria, there isn't one natural rock on our land. We spent one whole summer/fall getting rocks. I was on the mail route at the time, and it took me twice as long every day that summer, cause I was rock hunting:)

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Very lovely landscape u got there tiG! U & family did a good job. all the hardwork pays off, doesn't it :)!

i could hardly wait to move, so i can also relocate all my plants on the ground. thanks for sharing.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Beautiful TiG.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It looks great TiG!!

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Good looking spread there tiG. Looks like you've got room for lots and lots. I know about that not being able to keep up with the weeds. Love the rocks too. DH and I are always collecting too. There are huge limestone boulders available to me right now, if I can figure out a way to get one or two.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Very nice Tig,wish mine looked half as good.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

ok tig, how did i miss this the other day? really pretty. your ground isn't flat?! that banana is really pretty too. i guess bananas don't grow back from winter there?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

no they don't arlene. Karyn, I'll bet yours is gorgeous, I've seen your pond pictures!!! we don't have one flat square foot in the whole yard. The new bed will be to the left of this, center of the front yard. we hope to do it tomorrow, if it doesn't rain. I've been pulling together all my plants that can possibly go in a new bed. Hope I have enough to semi-fill it. I do have Kyle's Pink that has buds, but it's only about 3' tall, still putting it in there.
