This is a beautiful frilly white, but I cannot get the yellow striping down the ribs to show in the open shot. Pretty fragrant. http://davesgarden.com/editgj/viewentry.php?rid=18214
can you help ID
Jeanne, could this be Guitty or the hybrid seedling you sent me a long time ago? I can't find anything that matches. It's white, not off white, the tendrils aren't really too long, and the ribs are yellow. smooth leaves, nice smell.
bumping and hoping
Its not a hybrid I recognize off hand.
it is definitely a cutting, not a seedling. Was traded as something else, but I'm happy with it as it is. It is so frilly, and hopefully I can keep that and add color. I crossed it with Aurea orange tonight.
Tig,
Have you seen any crosses that were aurea x suaveolens that ended up being pink? I want so much for one the seeds I sent out...Isabella x Butterfly to end up being a descent shade of pink and of course still opening up a bit. Perhaps one could cross the resulting seedling back to some other aurea hybrid...like Aurea orange or such to get a nice richly colored aurea x suaveolens type hybrid. Perhaps even a brilliant orange with ruby red edges that angles out dramatically with an open flare and a sweet heavy fragrance that seems to go on forever....
wouldn't that be great!!! Eric, my first seedling is going to open in the next 3 nights, and then I have a couple not far behind that. Sure hope I get lucky like arlene and Shirley, but it might take til the end of summer. I just refed all of yours with Osmocote, and though they're in pots big enough to bloom, we're putting them all in the ground this weekend. That should push them over the edge to Y, and with all I have, I should have something, I mean the odds are too great for me not to have at least one stunner in the group!!!!
tig, with all those seeds i don't know how you could miss. there's not much like seeing a seedling bloom for the first time.
Here's hoping. Got my fingers crossed for you for sure.
Jeanne has a Guitty?? Clean out the painters Jeanne - I'm coming to get it!
I might have that name wrong Liz, don't kill me if I do!!
Is Guitty a suaveolens x aurea in the color pink? Or does it have pink genes in it?
no, it's white, think it has aurea genes though. it's on the LBJ site. it might not be what I'm trying to remember though. I just came back from looking at this one again, and it just gets prettier. It's a big flower, nice recurve but not too much. doesn't fatten out like Frosty pink. I love it, it's really is so ruffly.
Perhaps crossing Guitty to Rothkirch with Rothkirch being the pollen donor would give us what were after then? Just an idea....
I have no idea for certain until I talk to Jeanne that it might be that. But it's the closest I can find, and I know this is a cutting. I had a seedling from her too, and it could be a cutting from that. It's lovely! Without RK, what would be your second choice from Pink Beauty, Rosa Traum and Butterfly?
Butterfly would be my 1st choice barring finding some RK pollen. I say that because I haven't grown the other 2 and I know Butterfly has characteristics I prefer over Rosabelle, even though Rosabelle flowers better. I'd have to grow the others to do any kind of comparison.
now to keep this one blooming while the butterfly comes along. it has baby buds:) and I just fed them a nice big meal.
Arlene, can you verify that this is Eric's fragrant white??? yellow striping up the ribs?? big flowers? smooth edged leaves? I have another blooming in a bed, and while watering I noticed that these have to be the same. Have to be. It's worthy of a name, the frilly ruffly edges alone, not to mention the fragrance.
Tig, i will try to check. i think i may have sent you cuttings of a couple of eric's seedlings last summer before they ever bloomed, not sure, know i sent a few out.
Monika says rosa traum will throw out carrot colored off spring and is not a true suavolens. i am anxious to use that. and i like pink beauty better than butterfly, they are almost the same color but pink beauty is fatter. wonder who her parents are.
I have checked all the brug pictures I can find, and can't find this one. I have a taller one, marked Eric's fragrant white. They are the same, I'd bet money on it. is yours blooming?
Tig, this is a cutting of one of my LBJ hybrids. I posted a picture back in May when Liz was here of the mother plant. The picture shows definite yellow stripes on the plant. I grew a lot of these, gave lots away and am still waiting for some to bloom. Unfortunately, I'm not positive which plant I took this cutting from but I think it was from the one in the May picture. I grew them from seed only named LBJ hybrids.
okay, that does clear it up. glad I left that shadow of a doubt:) now, are you going to name it? it's very very nice!!!
Jeanne, this one? http://davesgarden.com/showforumphoto.php?imageid=11331 I still have LBJ hybrid from you in a pot, and the photo doesn't match.
edited because I took blooms from each plant and this is not Eric's hybrid, hated to cut them, but it's not.
Okay, could this be the unreleased you sent me?

Jeanne, i edited my last post, so if you already read it....
The unreleased one is supposed to be a clear, true lemon yellow.
I have a pot with unreleased in it, and a pot with LBJ hybrid in it. Still thinking this is something else that I got from either Eric or Bruno.
