how do you do it????????? I have so much I want to do and might get finished by fall!
do you keep the banana to the main trunk or leave the pups on? I have that one, and it's getting huge around. I'm planning spacing in my new bed, and don't want to make too many mistakes:) thanks for answering, you're great about that.

tiG I crowd some plants..gives that Amazon look...I will cut all my bananas back half way to keep overwinter in a cool spot...then they will regrow quickly in the summer next year.I can't really tell you how to grow things where you are..you are so much farther south and different conditions. These pics only show a small amount of the plants I use..hard to get good pics of these kind of gardens..

I love the pictures, I think you did a great job. Will you post pics when the beds are mature? and may I ask you when winter come to tell me how to do my bananas??

I've been following your planting methods and my Tropical beds look sort of like yours!! I crowd things here, keeps the weeds down.
Your gardens are beautiful.

Kyle, I sure do enjoy your pictures. Better than any book or magazine I have seen. Lots and lots of ideas. Wish I had seen these at the beginning of the year, so I would not have planted the disaster I planted, everthing on top of everthing and just did not plan very well. Ah, but next year.....

roz, I wish I'd seen them too!!! hopefully there's next year.

Love your tropical beds Kyle. What zone will the Musa Zabrina survive in? I have mine in a pot but the Musa Bajoo survive in the ground here all winter with a bit of protection.

Kyle,

I bought the Musa Rojo for my daughter. They had a table of them reduced half price. I love the Rojo for its leaf color and the underneath is beautiful also.

I read that one allows the second pup to grow with the mother, but to remove the others and pot them up separately. After the mother blooms it will die, but the second plant will take over. Using this method keeps a continual supply of plants.

I have an unknown canna that I grew from seed this spring growing next to my potted brugs and Missouri Marble. The leaves on the canna are easily 20 inches long and the plant is 3 feet tall...still no evidence that it will flower though. Its beginning to look like its on steroids. :-)

very pretty, eclipse. tig, the raja puri will put on pups in no time. i meant to tell you you can use dirt cheap fertilizer around it, lots of water. nickle to a doughnut you'll have pups in 2 months flat. i started with one in a gallon pot, and it had several babies in no time. that was 2 years ago.

how fast will it grow arlene? we are redoing a bed Saturday morning and a banana will be in the center. I have one (unknown) in a big pot that is about 4' tall now. wondering which one to use, I want it to look full now. will the one in the pot make the move good? and I could put the raji in next year.

Brugcrazy......I would imagine the Rojo banana is probably hardy in the ground in zones 9-11 maybe only 10-11.Not sure.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

tig, plant the one you want, given the right conditions i believe all bananas grow fast. a four foot one will have better roots. i guess they don't come back from freezing down in your zone?

Thanks Kyle, guess I'd better keep it in a pot. Don't want to lose it.
