Need to see Amber Rose

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Does anyone have a picture of Amber Rose. I'm growing one and would like to see what I should be expecting for color, size, etc. Thanks.

FSH, TX

I cut mine back last year to the ground close to the time Amber came home from the hospital. Mine hasn't bloomed since then and no one I have sent cuttings to has sent me pictures yet. I tried taking some pictures prior to that...but I am not the best camera man. Think I had the flash on in the daylight and the colors didn't show. I know, go figure.

Eric, what color is she? Mine seems to be staying rather short and bushy. Is Amber Rose a pink or rose color? Aurea or ???? I'm sure it will bloom for me this year, but is going to be later this fall.

The Isabella X Butterfly is quite tall and sends out large side shoots from the trunk. Meant to write this on the other post.

Amber Rose is a pink to peach with clear amber stripes. Dr.Sues x Ecuador pink is the parentage of that one. She has a versicolor type shape.

Thanks, sounds really pretty.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

you can bet when mine blooms I'll post pictures.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Good, I'm sure your Amber Rose will bloom long before mine does. Mine is only about 2-1/2 ft. tall now. I'm letting all the side shoots grow right now. Is yours trained as an alley tree?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

yes:) it's in the front spot too. Kyle's Pink and Dr D have buds and will bloom soon, so the blooms are starting in the alley.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Great.......I'm still waiting on a good flush of blooms from more than one tree at a time. About two weeks should really start the show. Can't wait.

tiG . . Brugie . . Keep your cameras ready. It sounds like the show is getting ready to begin.

I think mine has buds, I'll check it today. It's about 6 feet tall now.(I love Osmocote, can you tell?)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I know Cala, but I can't find it in large enough quantities. Have to buy small amounts and it is getting expensive. With all the brugs, hibiscus, passiflora, and other stuff, I've used a bunch of it. Wish I could get it the way you buy it and I'd mulch with it too. :-)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I know what you mean Shirley! I bought 10 lbs yesterday afternoon, and it's 3/4 gone and I haven't put it on the ones in the ground yet, and that was only on brugs!!!! this is an expensive hobby.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Very expensive. I just can't find it in large quanities around here.We don't have a Lowes and Home Depot is over 100 miles away. Our WalMart doesn't have in in lg amts either so I just buy the small bags.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Maybe I'll do a search and see what I can find. If I do find a good deal, I'll let you know.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i finished off the 50 pound bag i bought in i think june yesterday, and need more! i'm gonna call the seed and feed in gvlle, price it, if over 55.00 will get me a 10 pound bag to try to get me through.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Found a place to get 50 lb. bag of Osmocote Brand 14-14-14 for $69.75 and 25 lb. bag of Peters 20-20-20 for $30.60. Of course the shipping was $31.94, but even with that added in, I can't beat those prices anyplace else for either product, so I guess I'll eat hamburger next month. Yep, I ordered.

I know this is more expensive than what you can get Arlene, but I can't find anything better in our neck of the woods. If I went to DM to get it and bought that much, plus the expense of going and I never just buy what I go for, I'd spend way more, so I'm ahead to shop on line.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Shirley, that's not a bad price on osmocote. where i bought last time it was 65 and 69, i paid 69.00 plus tax. i hardly used any powder last year when i put the osmocote on in spring, lasted til fall.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene, do you just sprinkle it on top or do you work it in? Some of my brugs have so many lateral roots that I'm not sure I can get it worked in.

I put a lot in the planting holes this spring, but haven't tried to put more on since then.

you know lazy me, i just sprinkle it on. mine always seem to have shallow roots. i can't believe i used 50 pounds in less than 2 months and didn't get it all done. guess it's pretty close. might get 10 pounds to hold me over til next year, the kind i have now is supposed to last for 10 months at 90 degrees. i'm glad to hear you had some brown calyxes, i didn't remember seeing them before, not on all plants, just a few. thought they might have been shocked going from 2 month drought to getting fertilizer and water, don't really know.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think up here it is just plain "THE HEAT". Now we are cooled down some, but it is coming back this weekend. My brown calyxes are mostly on Insignis Pink and one on Isabella. The Pink Beauty has curled buds. Maybe that is a trait of hers, but I'd never seen them before. Got to get to bed........too much work to do tomorrow. Later.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I bought 10 lbs of Osmocote for $17 l believe at Lowes. Which one is the best? I bought 19-6-12 indoor/outdoor in the pink bag?
Should I use a higher nitrogen in the beginning of the season when you want plant growth then switch when you want blooms? I have the vegetable and bedding one at 14-14-14 but I have not used it yet.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

somebody answer this question before I have to buy more.
