I think he'll do fine in his new pot. DH had no trouble just lifting straight up and out of the old one. It had roots right to the botton on the outside and had shrunk a bit from the sides so my suspicion was right. He was root bound. Added a full wheelbarrow of manure/sunshine mixture to him in the new pot. Unfortunately now he is too heavy to move closer to the patio where we can enjoy him better. Gonna have to get one of those things on wheels to move him around I guess.
My brug alley is nothing compared to everyone elses but it is handy to the hose and shed with the fertilizers which makes their daily needs much easier met. It's hard to believe he came home in a 1 gallon pot exactly 2 months ago.
Thank you to everyone on DG for all the information I have received over the past two months. I wonder how many people buy brugs at the nurseries and have no idea how to look after them. Kinda like the neighbors who just had to have one that a few of you mentioned. Just think, without this forum I'd be one of those disappointed brug owners!
Thanks again.

Thanks for your encouragement
He sure looks happy now, just look at all those buds!!
Beautiful plant!!!
Your brug looks happy there. What will you do when it is time to bring it inside or will you just take cuttings? That would be a big pot to move, for me anyway.
is that one of those tree pots? I have 3 in them, and they are heavy! he looks wonderful, we knew you could do it! he'll reward you very soon I'm sure!
He sure looks like a happy camper to me.
i have some really big pots, DS says they weigh 300 pounds.... It sure looks gorgeous! you'll have roots running out into the ground in no time, then you really won't be able to move it!
Arlene - I can't move it now! The roots didn't grow out of the pot in the smaller one but we have possibly 3 more months of growing time so who knows what will happen by then.
Brugie - I'm still unsure about winter storage. DH says his truck is NOT moving outside for Brugs. I think we can get all 4 in the unheated GH after taking cuttings.
Yes Tig - it is a tree pot. I buy used ones from a local nursery for Cdn $4.00 ea.
The next baby I get will go into a 15 gal pot with door knob size holes and get buried as per Monika. This one was too big and the handles aren't the greatest to carry it with. I'm a pretty husky gal and could manage it alone in the old pot but I had to get DH's nephew to help him move it from the lawn where we repotted it back into the alley.
poppytree, it is beautiful and so healthy looking! I have no brug alley either........... but soon to have a brug yard......LOL
It sure looks happy now.
Mary . . it looks very satisfied settled in it's new home and it is a very pretty and healthy looking plant.
