this is a 5ft brug, brought from FL in the heat, 6 hour trip, 90*, barerooted, nothing on the roots, no paper, etc.
It has been pouting today but seems to like it here:)
Shirleys Peach day 1
can't believe this
Wow! Fantastic! I should ever be so lucky.
tig, i never even thought about wetting the roots and putting them in a bag. poor brain doesn't work all the time. you are going to enjoy this brug!

Hope it makes it too! Looks a little puny but should perk up!
arlene, I'm the one that handed them to Kirk. I meant to put those wet burlap bags over the 3 that were barerooted. Versi Peach never blinked, she's holding her head high, and you can see how well SP did. Azalea had the other one, but we got good rain today, so they will all 'take' :)
thank you again so much, you are a delight and a very generous friend.
WOW!!! that is lovely! drooling and green with envy with all the blooms u guys have. i probably won't get any bloom till the weather gets cooler here.
Arlene, u got lovely collections :D!! love ur gardens too!
TiG, Lucky you. You got some beautiful plants and got to meet a great lady.
MaVie, it's hotter than blue blazes here! humidity today was 70*, are y'all humid? are you feeding them every other day?
do you have a Y yet? I'll look tomorrow for something that has Y'ed hopefully
MVR, thanks, i enjoy them but am trying to thin down, have too much to take care of. tig, that is pretty awesome that you have at least one nice bloom, probably more not in the pic. hopefully Azalea has some open blooms tonight also. Snow, thanks for your kind words but i am just like the rest of you, except probably less organized......
I just got in from Trivia - guess I'd better grab the flashlight, LOL! We didn't get rain much here today, a 5 minute sprinkle is more like it. Most of my blooms had been knocked off by the time I got them unloaded, but still had a few and lots of buds.
that is the difference TiG, it's hot and DRY. no humidity whatsoever. no rain either. i water the brugs everyday, sometimes twice a day. i alternate foliar feeding of MG 15-30-15 and Fish Emulsion. there are some Osmocote 17-17-17 on the each brug planted.
Eric' White is almost 4-1/2' tall and finally has a Y on it. others have y'ed too, but no sign of any buds yet. i have been trying to find the Peter's 20-20-20 fertilizer formula, but been unlucky to locate one. is it pellets or powder? can it be bought on line?
have you tried Home Depot, they carry a lot of Peter's formulas. you might just hit them with the mist on your sprayer if you're out there. ?? the Osmocoate might need renewing because of the heat too. I'm doing mine again.,
i have not seen the Peter's formula on HD either. maybe i will request the store manager to get me some. the Osmocote i use is good for 4 months. i keep note of when i applied them and replenish when need be. when i planted the brug i also added some superphosphate in the soil, together with the steer manure. i keep note of what and when i fertilize.
if not mistaken the dry wind, not too strong though, and the dry weather here is not helping any. although i must say, they are all looking nice and healthy. leaves are so big! they are get the morning sun and afternoon shade.
the osmocoate breaks down faster in the extreme heats we're having.
well, i do replinished when i see the visible ones has been lesser in number from the time they were applied. i will try to add more then. i use 1/4 cup Osmocote for every 5 gal. pots. need i add more? what formula do u use? TIA
I put about that much in the mix, then I sprinkle heavily on top. I don't measure, just til it looks right. Put that much in the pot, then sprinkle on top til you think that would be enough, and then do it again:) key word is heavy! yes, it's expensive which is why I'm out right now. HD carries a 10 lb bag for $17, that's not so bad. but it will get you the blooms, ask Cala and arlene.
i have a 7 foot dr suess that just hasn't bloomed, i have been adding tons of fertilizer, osmocote and powder, trying to get it to bloom, it is getting buds now. also had a bunch of salvia stealing its fertilizer, and think it wasn't getting as much water either.
also a 6 foot jamaican yellow in a pot that Yed long ago, gotta get more fertilizer on it too. i got really messed up with my fertilizer this year. i think cala said she uses 1/2 cup per 5 gallon pot, not sure...
Thank You! glad i bought more Osmocote today. will add more tomorrow. and see if i can get some Peter's 20-20-20 - is this pellets or powder? thanks again. deeply appreciate all the help i can get.:D!
Thanks from me too. I guess that is why I haven't gotten any buds yet. I haven't been feeding them enough! And I thought I was going in for the kill with too much fertilizer already but I can see that I haven't given them nearly enough yet. Lani
not sure about that Peters, it may be the water soluble?
i saw small boxes/bags of peters in walmart, i looked but i still buy the walmart generic 15-30-15. i have been using it for plants behind in fertilizing cause the osmocote takes maybe a week to kick in, and i didn't get enough osmocote on all of them.
do you increase the dose if they are behind arlene?
tig, i am so scientific.... i just sprinkle around the brug and try to remember to add more osmocote. i have a lot i think are still kind of behind. last year i was good with the oscmote and rarely used the powder until late fall when i didn't want to add a lot of osmocote when they were going to be frosted soon.
wait, do you sprinkle MG around the brugs? you don't mix with water?
no, i have always been lazy with MG, even before i had brugs....just sprinkle around the plants and run the sprinkler, maybe use the hose on them a little first. did it saturday right before it rained.
you probably just saved me hours a week
I wondered about doing this- I use the Wally World's brand of MG too Called "Sam's Choice" Deep Feeding, same numbers 15-30-15 but cheaper! I just thought it wouldn't spread as evenly if it wasn't mixed, and we don't get enough rain to wash it in very well.

Am I understanding you correctly Arlene, that you dont mix the miracle grow with water? you just sprinkle it around the plants? how much do you sprinkle ???
yeay...if this is what you are meaning, it sure would save a lot of time......and effort.....
Pebble,
I do it that way too sometimes...so far so good. I guess if you use to much you could burn a plant...anyone ever done that with MG?
I sprinkle Peter's fertilizer a lot rather than mixing with water and doing each plant individually. That would just take too much time when doing it two or three times a week. Have to say that even with annuals planted around the base of some of the brugs, I've never burned any of the plants by doing it this way. So much easier to just water it in than to go through all the mixing. I'm not accurate when it comes to tossing it on the ground either. Just guess and toss.
Now that is stunning-hangs like a versicolor-strong suaveolens influence.
it even came home with tiny seedpods:)
Bonnie, did you get the picture I emailed you? I'm not sure this is Shirley's peach. On mine, the blooms don't hang down and the blooms open white and then get a light peach/pink edge to them. Might just be the results of the trip that have changed the appearance a little though.
nope, didn't get the picture. this was the first night it opened, but it does hang down. it's more than the edge that's peachy. will try to run out and snap a picture in the morning of a second day bloom.
Shirley, i got 2 shirley's peach from you last year, both have bloomed and both look the same, so i don't think i mismarked. i'm looking at the pic and i can't tell although i believe i could tell one in person. seems like the ribs were very yellow, once in a while it looked a little peachy but mainly pink at least to me. the one that went home with tig was stuck right there i the ground where we pulled it up from as an unrooted cutting, froze back in december and again in march. i'm thinking maybe the flash affected the color.
it was still white at that point, but I just went out and it is peachy pink about 1/3 of the way up. But the flowers are hanging almost straight down. Will wait and see when it's fully comfortable here if that changes.
they were never like that for me, the color seemed to go to the top. maybe the florida sunshine had something to do with it, had one in a pot and one in the ground. i like it but had another about the same color but with less yellow on the ribs, kept that one. my sis has the other one.
I really do think that the weather plays a big part in how they bloom. The way you describe it Bonnie, is the way it looks here. I'll bet that the reason for the flowers hanging down is because of the move. Just for the heck of it, I'll post a picture of when it bloomed peachy colored for me. Last year it didn't have a lot of color, mostly white, but the heat was intense when it was blooming. I'm sure you have it marked right Arlene, it is probably just the difference in our soils, weather, and some of the stress of moving it.
Ms Brugie, you are the reason why!!! you marked the cuttings with marker, i have never been able to get it to work for me, but was great!
