I have 3 of these in my yard and after a hard cut back in the spring, they come alive with bloom this month. So lovely. a Tibouchina urvilleana / Princess Flower.
is this considered a tropical?
yes, kell, the princess flower is considered a tropical. It hails from Brazil. I love those.
Oh thanks Lisa! I was not sure which forum to post it on. I am just learning my camera and havng a great time posting my pictures to share my garden. I have no garden friends that share my passion! It is so much fun to see everyones gardens from all over the country and beyond! and then to show my little one.
Wow, mine is so tiny. I have to bring it in in the fall. That's beautiful!!
Wow Kell you have another beauty there.
Tibochina is the species.............
Kell - pack that one up for me. After a couple of years outside during the winter mine didn't make it this year. So you see, I REALLY need it more than you.
Beautiful, Kell. Mine isn't blooming, and I thought it should be. It bloomed beutifully last year, died back, came back, probably between waist and shoulder heighth right now, but no blooms. Any advice?
Gingerlilly, I bet it does very soon. Mine are now in full glory. I find this plant loves to be pruned so it gets nice and bushy. I keep mine watered well, if you get those orange rimmed leaves you know you are underwatering. I do spray this with miracle grow but just the leaves, not the dirt. I have had mine in the back freeze to the ground and then it does take a little longer to comeback up and bloom. I like this plant because it blooms profusely when other things have been spent. My crapes will be putting on a show soon also. the 2 together are a great contrast in color.
Gingerlilly,
Mine don't normally bloom here till Sept or so and I think we are in the same zone.
