P. cinnabarina http://www.passiflora.it/cinnabarina.htm
I had a seedling that germinated out of 20 or so seeds. They required smoke to break dormancy, which was not provided since I was experimenting smokeless germination. It died right before I went to VA in March. I guess I should try the next batch with smoke. I have been told not just any smoke will do.
P. perfoliata http://www.passiflora.it/perfoliata.htm
I have one growing like mad, rooted from a cutting earlier this year. It's about 4' now, hope to see flowers this year.
More Red Passion FLowers
Tim, the first one is cool, but the second is stunning!!!!!!!!
tiG,
The second one, in that shade of red reminds me of Christmas.
It looks like a pointsettia!I like the second one best!
They are both pretty, but the P. Perfoliata would have to be my pick for beauty. Will always like the reds the best, but some of those purple and blue ones are gorgeous. Oh heck, Tim, I like them all.
I too like the second one best.
Ok Tim, the Passion Flower King...
What do you mean about "smoke"? I purchased a package of Red Passion Flower seeds last month and have them in potting soil and in the ground. Nothing is showing yet. Do I have to do something special to get these beauties to germinate? I am in zone 10, but I don't have the humidity like you do.
Help please,
Thanks, Donna
Like the second one the best. I had seeds for Kangaroo Paws. Was told they needed the ashes from burnt trees, like when fire spreads through a forest. DH gathered me some wood ashes for the "smoke", Nothing ever came up. This was a package of store bought seeds/ exp. date still good.
Hibiscus, none of my Australia seeds that needed "smoke treatment" came up.
Then it just wasn't my green thumb that wasn't working, I feel better now.
