MsJen, will probably be its regular color in the morning.

Jen,
It's probably not a Charlie but a Dr Suess check out the leaves....Charles G. has smooth leaves. Arlene is right...if not with this bloom but with the next ones.

im just glad they are starting to bloom. i was honestly getting ready to compost all of them.
i dont think a have a charles grimaldi. if dr seuss is the one with serated leaves, then i have 3 or 4 ds and no cg.

Jen,
I just received some CG rooted cuttings.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

someone please put me on the list in the fall for CG. I don't want it now!!! but when we go to trading, I need one.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee tiG, I have tons of CG cuttings............. I can send you one with the double white!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

is it the real CG with smooth leaves? I would really appreciate it:)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You mean that the leaves are not edged in points but the perimeter is straight around?

As I write this my bird is walking up my bare legs from my toes kissing me but her nails are digging in........ouch....... but i can't say no to her since it is such a loving gesture on her part.

Anyway, I must go out and look, I do believe the big tree is smooth but the 2 growing up from the bottom have the jagged edge to their leaves. What does this mean?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

the one with serrated leaves is Dr Seuss

I'd say Charles, get a couple of more opinions, I'm a newbie!

Kelley,
Looks like Charlie to me too.

Charlie, it is.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

look at the bottom just above the red flowers. see the new growth coming up? those leaves on this new growth is serrated....... or not smooth. I will post you all a picture later..............
so anyhow, why would it throw up serrated offshoots when it is not?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Kell, immature leaves can be different, i believe eclipse said the immature would be serrated til a certain point before becoming smooth. cant remember the technical stuff. and i believe Dr Suess is the opposite first leaves out for a couple of feet are smooth, then they become serrated. btw, looks like you have the fertilizer thing down, good leaf and blossom color.

Kell...a very fine example pic of Charles Grimaldi..can we use it for future reference? It will show the difference between CG and Dr S.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

yeehaw!! Okay, kell, start me one to send with the other!!! Gloria, you're off the hook:)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

That looks like my Charlie!! I was wondering this spring when they all came up with serrated leaves till Eclipse explained it to me.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, don't forget me too, but wait until fall. Cuttings will be fine. I don't need rooted plants.
