Can somebody give me a little tutorial and a photo of a Y? I have read the threads and tried to look for some on my brugs. I think I see a Y and watch and wait, and it puts out another leaf in that area rather than a bud. I'm so confused! And, how tall do they have to be to Y? I have soem that are almost 2 foot tall. Is it too early to be looking?
Can you tell I'm getting excited? I have beautiful plants, and I wanna see my first brug flower.
This business about Ys
Joan, sometimes they will grow after they Y. There might be a little bud right at the Y and sometimes the little branches that form on the big branches above the Y will have buds. Have I totally confused you yet?
Now there is the problem with two I have---they've grown 6 feet above the Y and still no bloom!! I'm about ready to chop them down!! Darn plants are way over my head and no blooms.
JoanJ...as I am not an expert on brugs but I may offer a little leadway that may help you... I have a brug about 2 ft tall and it has blooms about to bloom...I also have one about 5 ft tall that is budding and others that vary with size...
I have one with a "w" about to bloom! I posted a pic of one with a "y" and a bud if you will look it up on my member page...
Just let me know if this helps if not give me an email for I have other pics that may help you!
Happy Brugging to you!
Rebecca
Joan, I posted a picture today titled Eric remember?
it shows a good Y
Thanks for all the info. I'm still trying to figure this out and I might not until I actually get a true Y. Still hoping. I'm off to look at your photo tiG. I'll figure this out yet and I'm NOT giving up.
JoanJ ....look at this link, the Y is marked.

Kell, that helps alot, since that photo with the pink arrow shows what my brugs are doing now. Putting out leaves at the Y instead of buds. So,if flowering occurs on old wood, my brugs won't probably flower for awhile since they are grown from cuttings or seed. Right?
I'm trying to overcome a mental block here. Thanks for all the help.
tiG, I'm still looking for your photo, haven't found it yet.
I found your photo tiG. Thank you! I have two plants doing that in several places, so hopefully someday I will have a bud. I know now that I have several Y's, but like your picture, they are putting out leaves. Maybe the bud will come later? If I ever get a bud, then you all will have to help me through that too, since I don't know anything about getting pollen and all.
Please bear with me while I learn all this! LOL

JoanJ, I bet flowers are not far behind that Y!!! Look again, they can be so tiny you miss them for awhile. My brugs flowers on new green growth! When they bloom it will have been worth the wait!
those Y's have teeny tiny little buds in there with those leaves. Patience! and your cutting should bloom this year, if you have it in a big enough pot, feed it enough and give it full sun/afternoon protection.
I looked this morning. There's only tiny little leaves as far as I can see, and I didn't want to touch it for fear of breaking off a teeny bud if it was in there somewhere. I'll just patiently watch it. :) Wonder how long I can resist trying to see if something else is in there. LOL!
I have been feeding them 6-10-10 but not real regularly I guess. Maybe once every other week or so. They are in 5 gallon pots and get full sun all the time. Anything here that I need to change?
Might switch to a stronger fertilizer. I use 20-20-20 and fertilizer two or three times a week and double strength every two weeks. I don't know that it makes them grow or bloom any faster, but just took the advice that someone else gave me and have kept it up. Sure doesn't hurt them in any case.
Thanks Shirley. I was afraid of killing them, but if you fertilize that much with that strong of a fertilizer, then I can definitely up their dosage. I'll look for some 20-20-20 next time I get to town too.
