This is Dessie, the billy (named after the racehorse Desert Orchid who was very popular at the time). He was born in my first year on the farm. I had to walk him daily to get him used to being handled, until he was walking me that is!
I never did realise the importance of that job until one evening when he got out amongst the cows. None of them were bulling at the time and he became a tad miffed. I caught him by his nose ring and put him back in his pen where he promptly stuck me against the fence and slowly tried to press all the wind out of my lungs. With what felt like my last breath I told him he was a naughty boy as loud as I could LOL. Something in that tiny brain clicked and he released me long enough to bail out over the fence. He had a bit of a surprise when he crashed his head against an empty fence.
