Not too long ago I had never heard of brugs..but since joining Dave's and seeing the beautiful pictures, I am curious as to the growing of these pretty plants. I am taking the lazy way out and asking for info from all you growers..are they easy to grow? hardy? I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and it gets pretty hot and dry during the summer, would they like it here? Just wondering if it was worth the investment or should I be satisfied to admire the pictures that are posted. Thanks in advance for any info/advice you care to share.
Curious about brugs.
don't get started, you'll collect 50 plus in one year like me, gonetoseed, snowhermit, and many more. lol....
earthling,
I live right along the MS Gulf Coast and boy does it get hot and humid here....I have at least 60 plus Brugs and the count is growing weekly. Arlene said a mouth full when she warned you....Brugs are like potato chips you can't just have one. LOL
my sister lives in carrollton. she said shes seen them around (she works for the phone co) but i've been unable to unload any on her.
i think you can safely grow them just like the rest of us.

Earthling, are you on Lake Ray Hubbard??? I should think that you would do fine growing them in pots...you can put the pots in the garage in the winter, or on an enclosed porch. Try to use east side plantings, and I think all will be fine.

Earthling-I am in Fort Worth. This is only my second year with Brugs and I have four. Last year I had only one in a pot and it over wintered beautifully in the pot in the garage. This year it is in the ground and is about 4 feet tall and as wide and is covered with blooms and buds. Will have to see how it does overwinter in the ground. As you know, we haven't had a hard winter in several years. The other three are in 5 gal pots and are growing nicely. They do like lots of water and fertilizer and will wilt in the sun, so keep well watered. I still like the Datura, though.
Thanks for all the info, I guess I will try it out..
Yes, eyes, I am on the lake...(close enough, anyway)..looking for something different to do out in the back yard, running out of room, though. How does one post pictures here, anyway???
earthing, before you buy anything, look around and try to pick ones you really like. also, i am sure if you post for trades, you can get your brugs that way, they can be expensive over the net and kinda hard to find locally, except the most common "pinks" and "whites".
Earthling, to post a picture, go to the brugmansia forum and scroll to the bottom of the page. It is pretty self explanatory from there. Browse through your files for the picture you want, open it, put a title on it, write down your little ditty, and BINGO.......we can see your picture. Just be sure you have the right one to begin with or you will have to go through it all over again and you can't delete it once it is uploaded to the forum. Good luck. I'm sure it will be no problem for you.
Oh boy, two fellow Texans here!!! Would love to see your gardens, earthling, and nefer. I know you will enjoy growing your brugs. Mine are about 4 1/2 ft, and have buds that are getting ready to bloom.
