Lisa yu lucky dog you!! A friend of mine in Calif was given a huge (20FT) hybrid palm for free..cost her $1000.00 to get it moved and transplanted though..but it is so rare she didn't care. :-)

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

I see this one has many of like this on side road.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Rose, you are right..well, almost..the ones we have on the side of the road here are native to the area. They are almost impossible to dig up because of their long tap that goes very far into the earth. The ones you see are called Sabal minor(Palmetto). This one I have is a Livistona chinensis. (Chinese Fan)They do look alot alike. Hopefully mine takes the transplant well.

Eclipse, hubby is in the landscape business..so we were very fortunate to have all the equipment to do this. I am going to give the palms a serious trim and hope for the best.

IT's true it is hard to dig it out.. We have plenty of it in back of our land. Justmelisa.. Happy for you!

justme....good luck..just don't overwater them..thats what kills the most palms..too wet!

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Eclipse, thanks for the info. I contacted the guy who is pres. of the Palm Soc. in New Orleans and we had a long talk a couple of days ago. I think my palm will make it. I am trying not to 'over-pamper' it. .. LOL
