I have been petting this plant all summer. Finally got my first bloom. Leaves are now 3 foot in diameter. Spread is about 5 -6 foot. Guess my petting paid off.
First Euryale Ferox bloom of season
Wow - what a pretty flower. The spines sure look mean!!
The flower is tri colored and the thorns are awsome. Really hurts when it gets you. Was lucky to have this bloom show up above water. Normally they bloom underwater. This lily is a cousin to the Victoria lily's. Not as big but a nice specimen to have in a water garden.
Is it hardy for you there?
No. It is much like Victoria. Not easy to over winter. Have to restart every year from seed.
