Fall secret swap

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I know it's the middle of summer, but lots of our friends up north didn't get in on the last one because it was still cold. I don't want them to miss out this time, want them to have enough time to get perennials established. Would the end of August give you up north enough time to get things in the ground good????
also because of the postal rates going up (it wasn't that bad) I will work very hard to keep traders close in zones.
let me know what y'all think about the end of August, esp. you up north.

I'm going to start a different sign up thread, I'll ask a couple of questions on it then. I don't think August is too early here, I think it would be good, but have no idea what the northerners that would be interested need as far as a time frame.

tiG, sounds great! Will watch for details. Glad to have something fun to look forward to. Thanks for organising this!

Great for me too!

I think the end of August would be the latest for starting new perennials here, but I think it would work as long as Mother Nature doesn't bring winter early. We usually get our first freeze sometime in the last half of September, but sometimes it's early and sometimes it's late. If the plants are in the ground the last part of August, they would have almost a month. Is that long enough?

End of August is fine with me...Count me in!

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Sounds good to me!!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I want in on this one too! Late August is a great time to divide/replant perennials here in Ohio, but I can actually go until late September, too; we have a very long Indian summer, and typically get our first freeze mid to late November, even if we do get a light frost earlier.

Make sure you tell us how this one works: haven't done a secret swap before.

Kathy, I'll send out a letter with all the details when I send names. Just a thought, what if we have a zone 5 and up (or 4 and up) swap just a bit earlier? if not, am thinking the 3rd week of August, to get all mailed before Labor Day weekend.

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

count me in again, I loved the last one! Lou

Count me in please.
Thanks Shannan

I can't do this one. We have bitten off more than we can chew already this summer with building the house, working full time and both of us running for election with opposition. Plus, by August I hope to be doing the taping, texturing, sheetrocking, painting, staining and such. Our target date to get into the house is mid October, since we have the trailer house sold and they want to get it moved and set up before winter sets in. I'll be doing good to just get my gardens watered and weeded at that point. Next year though. Then my plants will be older and dividable and I'll have more time to devote to them. I hope you have a great turnout, and I'll definitely be in next year.
