Lovely!

I've always wanted to try Alstroemeria. Thompson Morgan has an ineresting selection of species & hybrids too, and they ship seeds to Japan.
Any suggestions for a first timer Baa?

Yes, don't buy from T&M LOL! It seems that they get very mixed results on their seed germination.

Ray Browns' Plantworld has a good selection and Chiltern Seeds have a few too. I love all the Alstroemerias but the smaller types tend to be a bit specialist. A aurea (syn aurantiaca), hookeri and pulchella are fairly easy to please, as are the Ligtu Hybrids. Any of them are worth a try, if you can grow orchids, Alstroemerias should be a walk in the park :)

Advice taken. Thanks!

I've seen pictures of the Ligtu hybrids, and hybrid vigor is always encouraging for a beginner. I'll check out the link when I get back from the weekend.

Thanks again!

If these produce seeds (they usually produce a few) I'll be happy to send you some.

In Kent aurantiaca seeds itself abundantly. we have more trouble trying to stop it growing lol. It's a very attractive colour too, if you like orange or yellow. The seeds disperse with great force, so babies pop up all aver the place.

Good luck with the ligtus Lophophora, I had an aunt in Dorset who treasured hers. They're very good for flower arranging as the flowers last well when cut.
I think i read on one of your posts that you're from europe, if i'm remembering rightly. If you don't mind saying, whereabouts?

Baa - many thanks for the offer! You have any Asian rarities on your wish list?

philomel - I'm from So. California and live in Japan. Don't mind being considered an honorary European though, if you'll nominate me :-)

oh - I won't eat marmite though....

Sorry about that, must have been someone else lol. Marmite definitely not obligatory.....and yes, i'll nominate you if you're sure that's a good thing :)

Lophophora

I'm always open to offers but it's not a necessity :)

Philomel

I'm glad you said marmite isn't obligatory otherwise I'd have to look for a new country and continent LOL
