thanks ya'll. yes it is one plant. i didn't relize they spread so wide. i am having one tuff job keeping them clear to let the other things growing around to have room.
dr. d is loved by the bugs but he is getting ready to send off blooms again he is doing a better job at growing than blooming. i do think he would like it in a more shady spot than full sun all day but he is coming around.
