King Sago

Does anyone know anything about Sago Palms...I know they are really not palms but anyway here's my problem. I have this King Sago growing outside in the ground that has no leaves because I cut them all off after our frost last spring because they got burned...now it has seeds on it but there is no male plant to pollinate. What I want to know is should I take all the seeds off so it will put on new leaves or just leave it along and let nature take it course....will the plant live through this without any leaves. Help!!!!

Glory.....let nature take care of the seeds..they will abort soon after trying to develop. :-)

Glory, hopefully this url help give better understanding about Sago 'palms' ...http://www.rhapisgardens.com/sagos/

after reading that link mine should be dead it gets to dry it gets to wet and still it lives. after getting to dry and loosing all its leaves last fall it spent the winter in the greewn house getting watered from time to time. this spring believing it was dead i went to dump it and reuse the pot i saw tiny shoots coming from the top.

Troy,
Sagos are really hard to kill. I too had a pup that I thought was dead....threw it in the compost and low and behold it started growing.

MaVie,
That is a super site. Thanks

U're welcome Glory :)! i bought some seeds on ebay w/out knowing how to care for them. that is when i did a thorough search and bookmarked the above site. early part of Spring, i presoaked the seeds in equal amount of hydrogen peroxide and water for week. then planted them in a pot. so far, todate i am beginning to see new growth. i'd love to see how they will developed. am sure i will enjoy the progress they make in the years to come.

MVR,
My neighbor lifted a few seeds off a Sago at one of the Casinos here and gave them to me to grow for him. All I did was put it into potting soil and watered them. I think I had three seeds and two germinated they growing nicely. It has been over a hear now and they are cute not huge but growing.

so far, am just simply elated that i was able to grow one or two from seeds. i have always wanted to grow one. am happy with my new accomplishment. gardening is an adventure i come to learn ever since i came to the US 30 some years ago. i have always been fascinated with thier regal form, which is why i have always longed to grow one. now am a happy camper :D!
