My sis has a beautiful Angels Trumpet that she wants to give me, lots of buds and flowers. Do you think it will survive a transplant? Any hints or suggestions????? I REALLY, REALLY want this to work. She lives about 30 minutes from my house. Help gang....

Need help from the EXPERTS. Please.
Is it in the ground??
I'd like to hear how you would do it if you need to move one from the ground to a pot. I have one that is large but short, blooms hang in the mud. Can I move it to a pot without losing all the buds?
Meems, if a brug is big enough to flower you will have to work very hard to kill it. i noticed a couple i shovel pruned earlier this year last week, they are growing pretty well considering they don't get fertilizer and probably not much if any water when i run the sprinklers.
i dug up a 4 plus foot one out of the ground last week that had open flowers, advised its new owners to cut off a couple of the smaller, outside stalks on it. will have to check with them to see how it did.
Ms Brugie, you are darned if you do and darned if you don't. you could possibly lose some buds digging a brug up out of the ground in the weather you are having now. if it is blooming now though, i would think as soon as it adjusts it will start blooming again, do you think?
I had one in a 32 gallon pot. overwintered inside in it. I decided that i would chop her up, start a bunch of new ones from it. I kept thinking I'd move the pot to the sun and feed it, but kept it in the shade, no extra water. Finally I wanted that pot, but not the momma in it, so I dumped it out on the ground under a tree on it's side(no moving it!) almost all the dirt fell off and it just sat there with roots exposed. After about 3 weeks, it had 12" of new growth with 4 branches coming out of the trunk. I gave in and put it in the ground. Anything that determined needs to live!
I just moved a 6 ft Becca Lynn a week ago from one ground location to another ground location....watered it very well after I moved it. The next day most of the large leaves had wilted but the buds and smaller leaves were fine...it took about three days to look like it did before I moved it....the temp at the time was in the 90's your Michigan temps should be lower.
It is in the ground...DS said it is growing sideways instead of up and down..about 3 feet it has lots of flowers and buds. I would like to put it in a large pot on the deck. Mi. is getting 90 degree temps too. It is suppose to cool off a little tomorrow. Do you all use Rapid Grow???? Would putting it in a container be ok???? It will be out of the ground for at least 45 Minutes.

Meems, if you have the schultz transplant stuff, that would be good to use, and you might want to take off a side shoot or two in case you don't get all the roots. and don't laugh, not with brugs but with other stuff, i have used those green bamboo stakes with a piece of cloth to cover stuff i planted in the ground that i wanted to adjust... if you are putting in a pot should be a piece of cake, just keep it out of mid day sun for a while. make sure you put it in a large container, wider is better than taller if you know what i mean, say a 20 gallon pot that is wider rather than a 20 gallon one that is taller. brug roots, at least in the ground, love to run lateral more than deep. i have pulled up brug roots 10-12 feet long right under the soil and didn't get them all!
I'd go for it. they are sturdy plants.
Meems, I'm game, how about you? Think I'll wait until evening when the sun doesn't cook the brug and me though. Thanks everyone for the advise. Tonight is the night. Have one to replace it with too, but not another versicolor.
If you can transport it in a bucket with water that would also help.
Thanks all, I will let you know how it turns out. I am going to do it this week end, hope it cools down a little. Brugie, wish I could wait until evening but daytime it is!This is sure a nice and friendly forum....really helpful too.

Hi... Just couldn't do it! I saw it Sat . It was just beautiful really large and so many flowers and buds. I talked my DS into keeping it where it is. There is no way it would have survived a move. I have lots of little ones going so maybe I will be rewarded with some flowers soon.
