I GOT A POD!!!!!

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Today this morning I was walking among my brugs and notice something hanging on Jessie Noel.. I went and found a pod.. It is one inch long.. The father must be frosty pink... that I remembered that I did pollen on each blooms. Most of all fell off and only one pod growing.. I am soo exciting!!!! MY FIRST POD!

Congratulations - now you wait, and wait.

lol They fall of sometimes, but fortunately some of them stay on too. I lost some pods here too, both small and a little larger, but there are also some growing very large lol Congrats with your pod, Mini! :-)

Arlene, do you have any plans of what to cross?

Liz, that is the worst part lol We have to call in Cala, so we can ask how to glue them together, when we have made a cut in the side of the pod to see, if there are seeds lol or when we think, that they are near ready :-) My x candida fl. pl. x x candida Hofwil pod fell of. It grew to 1½ inch and when I opened it, the pod was empty lol

Well Tonny, the Hofwil anther you sent me is still in storage waiting for something spectacular to use it on. I must choose wisely.

Oh no!! So sorry to hear about the Hofwil pod. Hope you will have another chance before the summer is over.

That is so exciting Mini...........I have a feeling with all of this pod making talk, I will be trying this myself next year! My husband will be so excited also.....LOL

Liz, is the anther still fluffy? I noticed, that some I stored looks kind of dull, but I found out, that the pollen has fallen of and lye like a powder beneath the anther lol

Shirley, I hope too. I am not sure, but from the look and smell I think, that Hofwil is a pure x candida (aurea x versicolor) and then the cross will be pure x candida lol Not all Brugs take pollen equally well. I have read in a post somewhere (I think it was) from Eric or Arlene, that some are best used as mothers and some are best as fathers. I try to keep notes about every cross that stay on and everyone, that fall of to se, if there is a pattern lol In this way it is kind of interesting, even when a pod fall or is empty, because it can lead to new facts lol

Pod still hanging.. I moved it to safe place so my dogs or kids won't bump into it.. IT still look so green...

Tonny i was lucky and unlucky yesterday. had a candida stuffed double white open with it's skirt dropped, ditto creamsickle! and i had no aurea pollen. i put creamsickle pollen on candida double white and snowhermit's VP X BF. i put versicolor peach on creamsickle. it rained yesterday, was nice and cool (75 or so), hoping something will stick. lots of pods getting ready on BF. am anxious to use rosa traum, hopefully it will start blooming before long. Monika said it is good at throwing out carrot colored seedlings....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Carrot colored seedlings would be pretty. I like anything that is darker in color with a few of the lighter thrown in for kicks. Have just got to take the time to try grafting so I can have a multi colored brug. That would have people around here asking even more questions. :-)
