saw this on the jasione yesterday, never seen one before, anyone have any ideas?
CLOSED: unknown butterfly thing
Oh yeeees! Easier to see in this shot Lilith, than the photo forum one. Didn't realise it was here too.
It IS a six spot burnet - day flying moth with a fondness for knapweed, scabious and, apparently, jasione
:)
never seen one before, are they common? is it poisonous or something, as it's so brightly coloured
Yes, i think they're pretty common. I don't know whether they're poisonous or not. They certainly wear the right uniform LOL
I saw some today flying in a meadow
:-)
it's so nice that since i've planted these new plants in my garden that lots of other insects come to visit. i'll be on the lookout for new beasties now :D
Yes, another fascinating hobby to keep you out of mischief Lilith ;)
It reminds me of the cinnabar moth, imported to control the tansy ragwart.
Yes, they're similar colouring but different markings tigrelily. I just love the caterpillars of the cinnabar in their striped black and yellow football (not sure if they play soccer or rugger) jerseys :)
