I was searching my yard for armadillos and banana slugs

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

on my hands and knees and found this nice surprise on my Brug suaveolens variegated that is not even a foot high!

You'll have flowers open soon. That sure was a nice surprise, wasn't it. Be happy you don't have any of those horrible banana slugs. They'd have eaten those flowers in no time at all.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Kell . . I bet you were surprised. I have not seen a variegated one that small with blooms. Post us a picture when they open.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Congratulations! So, did you find any armadillos?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

No Liz, but I almost caught that rabbit Glory has been after!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, lucky you. I haven't seen a bud on mine yet and it has Y'd two times. Bet you will love it.

Kelley,
Just One Rabbit...girl I have a million of them here. How would you like some wood rats...these also live in the woods with the rabbits, foxes, snakes, deer and alligators.
One of my neighbors had a small alligator on here back porch a few years ago....see what you are missing by living out in the dry West. LOL

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

three 4th of July's ago, my son screamed and i froze, could not move.... six foot alligator in our back yard 3 miles from the closest pond......

Arlene,
Isn't it fun living in the South...you never know what you are going to run up on. So tell me how did you get rid of the gator? My neighbor called animal control and they came and removed it.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I'm so glad we don't have alligators here!! Kell, that's a nice little plant. Isn't it always surprising how small they are when they bloom sometimes?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Glory, i was scared to death cause i had taken him to get "real" fireworks, thought he'd lost a body part. i couldn't move til DH came back in to tell me what it was and get his gun. called the sheriff's office, a couple of them came out and hung around til one of the gator handlers got here to take him off. we've got those animals too, started feeding the dogs inside, had a big coon on the deck everynight, turkeys -- they are my favorite, lots of bunnies, squirels, foxes, and coyotes. and a gopher turtle digging holes in my yard! my neighbor has had lamas for several years now, got them to try to keep his goats safe. i think the south is the place to be, as long as the AC works....

yes...gotta have that AC!!!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Good Grief! And you're mocking my SLUG!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Liz, it took me a long time to deal with catapillars. i don't know how i would deal with your slugs...probably call the DS to come mash it for me, or get a long instrument to pic it off and rocks to smash them? that is yucky! gonna do a search and see what snails look like here.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Gators, huge slugs, Armadillos etc. Guess I'll just keep my bear and be happy. LOL

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

It kind of makes aphids sound whoosy, doesn't it? LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee, and too think all we have here is....................................................................................... let me think..................now ........what do we have here?????????????????? oh my goodness ............I can't think what we have here .....................except EARTHQUAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

- and they eat the whole plant, not just the leaves

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Don't wanna burst that bubble but we get earthquakes too..

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

crestedchik.....oh burst my bubble....LOL!
I was so shocked a couple of years ago when we heard you had an earthquake. I grew up in NJ and we never heard of an earthquake. Here it is an entire mindset. ALways in the background. Is it so dominate in NY culture?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

No slugs here, but plenty of a variety of bugs and of course the squirrels and dreaded chipmunks. Throw in a snake or two once in a while and some dirty birds and "That's it folks". About the worst thing that can happen is to see a deer or two in the garden or if the neighbors cows get out and that has happened before, but they seem to like the grass in our orchard better than coming up to the house. You all keep your earthquakes and I'll try to be content with what I have here already. Have a good one!! :-)

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Oh and Kell - we're at the top of the San Andreas Fault - had a 6.8 a couple of years ago. Mostly we just get wiggles though.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

OH NO Liz, I may have to rethink becoming one of the Vancouver babes then! Are they forecasting a huge one for your area as they are here?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Well of course - but I'll be fossil fuel by then.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

well we can only hope...................I think!
