Arlene, where did you find the scarlet milkweed seeds? Would love to get some to if they are not as invasive as the normal milkweed. Thx ☺

I searched on eBay for either "butterfly weed" or "Asclepias tuberosa". The latin name differentiates this plant from the other invasive milkweed. Heck, I don't even know if this is a part of the milkweed family.

Anyway, there are lots of auctions for the butterfly weed. Just be careful as there seems to be at least three types of seeds:

1 - Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incaranata)we all know & love or hate (I've got those seeds if anyone wants some for an SASE)

2 - Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa) - A tall 1-3 foot tall perennial. Clusters of 2-4 inches waxy orange flowers emerge in Spring. Good cut flower. Dought tolerant.

3 - Tropical Milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) - another perennial that looks like the second one I described. I don't know the difference.

Edited to add the correct latin names for each variety.

And, here is a link to a great site that helps you understand each of the varieties: http://www.butterflybushes.com/milkweed.htm

I'm so glad you posted the link for the milkweeds. I got a beautiful plant from Kris (Painted Lady) at the GA plant roundup. I didn't know which one it was. It's Asclepias Curassavica, tropical milkweed. Thanks, Linda

Someone else on this site posted this link. They offer free milkweed seed. Really is a great site!
