its amazing.how many "NEW" brugs are for sale on Ebay....even my hybrids..
One seller needs to be real careful..they are using copyrighted pics to sell their plants..could get them in big trouble .
brugs online.
There was a HG for sale on ebay last month! I bought a pink brug, came full of mealybugs and was a twig! Earl of Valley Grow sells on ebay also..........just got a bunch from him today and I must say I am not impressed and hope they will make it.
2 are planted in 2 inch pots of just perlite or vermiculite, no soil. Should I shake off the perlite and gently put what roots they have in soil? They are so pale, so little and so skinny and frail looking, they need a dose of something to perk them up!
Besides you guys, Logees by far sends the best brugs, big fat and healthy!
I'm wondering if Earl is sick or something. I read on another forum that his plants aren't looking so good. The ones I bought from him last year were really good.
Kell,
I have one from Earls (this spring)that is doing fine. I wonder what happened. I hope yours will be OK since you have all those big pots now!
Oh Weeds..........you are so right.........LOL, lots of big pots and tiny brugs! Maybe because it is late in the season, I got the leftovers! Though you would think they would be tall and leggy and rootbound if that were the case!
Kell,
Don't they have Brugs all over California? I thought that was THE place to grow them.
I am hoping that is true Weeds............
Actually they do grow huge here in many yards all year long but we have limited varieties - - the double white (stuffed variety), single white, Pink that looks like frosty pink, and CG. Today I was looking at a huge CG that had blooms at least 10 inches across the flare and the plant was at least 20 feet tall...(how tall is a roof line?)..... it went above the roof. The proud owner told me it had totally been frosted to the grown this last winter and had already regrown to that size! It was literally covered in blooms.
I have noticed this year more nurseries are offering a bigger variety. I saw a 5 gallon Sunday of Peaches and Cream that was 4 feet tall. I also bought a 5 gallon Broadway Pink that is supposed to be Ecuador Pink (I HOPE!) I also found a yellow called Hattie something but could not find it anywhere online. Oh they have a lot of Betty Marshalls also.
I have not seen any brug sanguineas in any yards which is odd for they love this climate. I have a huge orange one in the ground that I am constantly hacking back or it would take over my whole yard. I got it thru a cutting I got when I was in Mendocino (a place right on the ocean) years ago.
Unfortunately, I have the more is better mentality!
So Weeds, is this more info than you ever wanted to know? LOL
Kell,
It sure tells me the rest of the story! Post some pictures please. And to think, I was feeling sorry for you. Well, I will be in San Fran in 2 weeks and hoping to grab a few cuttings! Would bring you what you desire if I had them but being new to this I only have the normal stuff which is grand to me at this point. I also have the more is better thing. Looks like it never goes away.
More info sure helps!
You will love San Francisco. If you wait a while I will have lots of cuttings to share! What are you doing up so late? I am usually alone at this time on the brug forum, roaming the quiet corridors all by myself.
I have the day off tomorrow and am a night owl. Have to go to bed normally but not tonight! I have a dear friend in San Fran that I visit when possible. I do love the flora and fauna there. Not to mention the yard sales and scenery.
I saw the new Isabella and was shocked. Yes there are others there too and saw your Milk and Honey. I think (just my humble opinion) that people who sell someones' new hybrids should send that hybridizer a fee of some sort.
Eclipse,
I am sorry, usurped your thread. It was not intentional.
Call me chicken but I have been scared to order from E-Bay even though I have seen several Brugs that I would have loved to have. Not knowing who you are ordering from I was afraid that if I bought something it would'nt be the real thing. Using other peoples pictures just proves to me that if they don't have a picture of their own to use then how do they even know for sure what Brug they are selling.Maybe I'm a nut but I figure Brugs are like Pedigree dogs. To have a great one you've got to keep a good bloodline and know for sure who the parents are.I agree with kell that Logees has some very healthy plants and I would highly recommend them. 4 out of 5 that I bought in Feb. have been blooming for awhile now and the newest ones I bought are growing in leaps and bounds.
this is the first i ever heard anything negative about earl, except for names being mixed up sometimes. i went and looked on ebay and for the first time he does NOT have brugs listed on ebay. i did see two of our friends had brugs for sale there though!!!!!! didn't recognize the third person from "emerald city usa"... Kyle, with your name recognition bet you could do well on ebay.
Snow, i disagree about the pedigree. there are brugs like jean pasco and others i can't think of that nobody knows their heritage, but they are still beautiful and good plants. i would buy a beauty not knowing its heritage in a heart beat. if you are gonna hybrize, could maybe make it easier, but i don't know enough about brug genetics to know how to judge what to breed anyway. btw, gonna run take a pic of your VP X BF........should i email you or post here? is still white, don't know if it's gonna change colors yet....
I do agree with you there Arlene. I guess what I'm trying to say is for instance they have a Pink Beauty advertised. Unless you know the person or the company and are sure they are reliable how can you be sure you are really getting a PB or just another Frosty Pink.If they have a picture of their own plant in bloom I would buy it even if it was an unknown because I saw a picture of THEIR flower and liked it.But if they are using other people's pictures then how would I really know what they are actually selling? I see one of our members on there and I would buy from her because I'm sure of what I would be getting from her but I'm not familiar with the other names that I saw.
So glad the vp x BF bloomed for you. Mine haven't yet. Sure do hope it changes to a color for you.Would love to see a pic either way. Thanks
Snow, you are absolutely right, big chance of not getting what you think you will. you can buy that pink beauty, the seller is one of my absolute favorite traders, great guy!!!
the flower hangs straight down, has the long candida one slit calyx. the flower is very short, 3 inches from the tip of the calyx to the end of the flower. white with yellow ribs. was yellow yesterday, white this am with yellow ribs and a few yellow streaks.
Earl has not had plants listed for a couple weeks now. I took a shot and bought the aborea with no picture to look at. DH bought it for me. He did this on wednesday night and received it on saturday. Very well rooted, packed very good and was about 3' . Hopefully it will be what she said it is. I agree with Arlene about the seller of pink beauty, have bought from and will do so again.
Kyle, I also agree with Arlene about ebay. You could make alot of us bruggers or whatever happy out there.
Have a safe and Happy 4th.
Deb
snow, I have a Pink Beauty baby with your name on it already.
but for anyone else, that's a fabulous price on that Pink Beauty! most start much higher!!!

Ecuador pink is a true beauty, but she grows a bit too slow for me.
Dear Eclipse ..
I am not selling anything of yours.
My point here is that although I knew I grow some of your hybrids, I haven't known others
I have are yours, too. Like Milk n Honey last spring. Even learned how to say it right
then, too ;-) I would like knowing which are yours and will appreciate a list if you make one.
I have photos in many places. Mine also have turned up on ebay (not me). I have had them come back to me
in someone showing me what they have or using to identify not realizing that photo is mine. lol
But weird to open your mail to your own photo. Ones not copyrighted as like here at DG I have begun
stating on my photos. Digimarcing the special ones as the copyright can [has] been edited out )o:
Last year I was at ebay to see a photo belonging to Plant Delights up selling cannas. More interesting,
the seller had applied his own company name to that photo. I happen to know the owner PD ..
so sent him off to see it. But it is interesting what some people will do either unthinking or not caring.
Hope you have made your ebay seller friend 'aware' to not use copyrighted photos without permission?
