Wilted

Franktown, CO(Zone 5a)

My double white wilted completely today in this heat. I watered it last night and tonight...will it survive? Or are these ones that won't take wilting? I'll move it into the shade and see if that helps.

Deanne, i have one in all day sun, but it has watersorb mixed in its hole. it doesn't wilt. not sure i know the answer. the leaves do stay prettier with less sun.

I have one in all day sun, C. Double white, and it doesn't have watersorb, and doesn't wilt.

I thought Monika said the doubles don't like full midday sun - maybe she meant the pink ones.
Yoohoo - Monika, where are you?

Deanne, you might just need a bigger pot to hold the water longer? i have 2 stuffed double candidas that get sun up to 4-6 o'clock sun. the one hasn't stopped blooming, the other is getting ready to start.

Deanne, Check out my thread about being upset. Same thing happened to me. All at once, basically.

Speaking of watersorb, I just went out today and bought a similar product and have the crystals sitting in a bucket full of water with Miracle Grow in it. As soon as they are fat with fetlilized water, I will mix them in my potting soil. Do you think the Miracle Grow in the crystals will burn my brug roots?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I am here, Liz! I cant sit very long, have to get rid of a huge haematoma on a my upper thigh.

Doubles dont like the sun nor heat too much with the exception in areas with high humidity. Charleston and Tiara are the only ones, I know, which can take full sun without any problem. Their flowers are very sturdy.

well, that explains it. our humidity is so far up there, I think it went off the chart :)

I was hoping after a good cooler night that it would bounce back. It looks terrible! I think it is beyond hope. I read your thread Brugie and thought that might be it (bug I mean) I will have to go look outside. Very disapointed!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

our humidity too, basically i guess the whole southeast for sure! creamsickle is doing great, dropping skirts and changing color!!! it's in full sun til at least 2.
Deanne, if it's any consolation, the candida double white to me is a disappointment as a double...usually stays stuffed!

We have been having some terrible heat here(don't want to hear any laughing from you southerners)and not only are the Brugs wilting but so am I. I noticed yesterday when it was 95 degrees and so humid it was hazy out that the plants didn't wilt at all and I didn't even water them.I went out last night and watered everything. This morning it is already 88 but the sun is out and not so humid and everything is starting to look wilted.I have one c. dbl. white in full sun and another in morning sun and afternoon shade. The one in PM shade is looking much better than the one in full sun. Humidity makes a huge difference.

Well I learn something new everyday. Thanks Monika - they get to leave theirs out in the sun and mine have to be shaded. I guess I better go move the HGs.

I have found here where I live since we do not have high humidity (thank god) that during heat waves I go out and soak all the ground and walls all around all my plants in pots(but not the soil in the pots) and it immediately lowers the temperature and since the areas wet are in the shaded areas around the plant pots it does not evaporate immediately. I also will fine mist all my plants and never have gotten leaf burn from the hot sun on them. I do this several times thru out the day. It really perks them up without waterlogging their root systems.

Hamilton, Canada

our temps are around 95 during the day and the humidex hits 100. by noon the pots are almost dry again. i mist faithfully every day as the leaves are so large they lose moisture fast. temps at night only drop to around 80 so i water and mist again. mine are all in pots. i have 20 on the verandah in pots are they are getting huge. misting recovers the leaf wilt quickly.

I tried Calla's suggestion and took most of the leaves off. They are so wilted that even the stems are droopy. It is in the shade and hopefully will recover. Thanks for everyone's comments. I must go find HG next to see how it is doing.
