J-LBJ-1

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

This is from seed brugcrazy got from LBJ last spring. A versicolor x euro. It's not a tall plant yet but it's making up for it in blooms. This is the one I said had 47 buds and 10 leaves after I finished stripping it.

what a good bloomer, are they gong to change color?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

They start out very yellow, then cream with yellow ribs then white.
I guess technically, this is seed to bloom in one year.

Nice job Liz, I'm still waiting for mine to bloom. Hopefully soon. This is definitely seed to bloom in just over a year.I think I got the seeds in May or June 2001.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Those are really nice blooms.

(Zone 6a)

Very nice plant. Does it have any fragrance?

My LBJ seeds have given me about a dozen plants. None have put out a Y yet though.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice shape to the blooms. Why did you strip all the leaves? Did they have a problem? Just curious. I rarely remove leaves above the Y unless they are keeping the buds from hanging properly.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Why did I strip that high? I got carried away, the thing is lucky anything is left. There was nothing wrong with the leaves.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Way to go Liz!! However, it sure looks nice when you can see all the blooms.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

You know - until I took this picture I wasn't able to see how the blooms line up at every node along the stem and pretty well wait for each other to bloom at the same time.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It's pretty. Is it fragrant? I've started stripping more leaves this week. It's just too hard to get between the plants.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

You ain't kiddin' there Susie, boy you guys should have seen her place. Talk about hard to walk though, but just so gorgeous.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

The flowers are very beautiful, Liz. Especially the flowering habit. I like this type of a hybrid.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Monika, I have an Amarillo Paja blooming right across from it that looks exactly the same to me. Is AP supposed to look like this?

Liz,
I'm not Monika but this is what I found on the AP....I have one too and maybe with any luck it will bloom.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

HMMM - this plant came from LBJ in a trade with them - the AP I mean.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

OH my goodness Glory, I never figured out you could do an image search on google. Now this is great! And the AP is gorgeous!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Look what I just found thanks to Glory

Pages and pages of brug pictures. Am I the only one that did not know this was possible? I am forever going to the LBJ site to see what different brugs look like. THANK YOU GLORY THANK YOU!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

You are too funny Kell - it's a big old brug world out there! Now you're never going to get anything done!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Tell me about it Liz, I am now 2 hours late for work. And of course I noticed you can also do a group search on Google and did so on brugs and up came tons of conversations on brugs. It was a little weird though, I felt like I was eavesdropping! Have a great day..........I am off after today for the next 4 days!!! you just know I will now be googling..............

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Liz, there had been and still is much confusion about the real Amarillo Paja. Its a hybrid of the late Mrs. Mosimann of Switzerland. Mother is B. suaveolens Goldtraum, pollinator a versicolor. Therefore its never a versicolor - hybrid nor a x candida. The lady, who brought cuttings of Amarillo Paja back to Germany, had a whole bunch of other Brug hybrids, mixed them up and didnt know afterwards, who was who. Nobody knows, how the real Amarillo Paja looked like.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Oh no ~ another one that's a mystery. It's one step forward with these plants and two steps back.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Today the Amarillo Paja is an apricot/cream colour - very close to the picture on the Gommer site. Whew!

Post photos Liz. Mine has lots of buds but isn't blooming yet.

Nice of you to buy DH lunch today J. The boy needs sustenance. It's taking him longer to get home from the float plane dock than it did to fly up to see you. LOL

Liz, BD is a sweetheart. We had a nice time. You must have answered the phone to know we had lunch. LOL. Thanks for the brug cuttings and the passifloras and for taking such good care of my Hodnik plants. I'm now the proud owner of a REAL arborea and a Rothkirch. Liz, you're a sweetheart too.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh my, now I am REALLY jealous. A real Rothkirch!! I've ordered a "real" arborea, but we all know about that order.....maybe, maybe not, maybe, and so on..........You are a lucky lady Jeanne.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Liz . . that's a real beauty!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Brugie - the 'real arborea' came from Paul in Montreal. It's closer than you think. And - I was just the half way point - no credit here.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Jeanne, A real honest to goodness Rothkirch!!!You are so lucky.

The Rothkirch is a big cutting with lots of roots but only one tiny leaf. Let's hope it grows big soon. I am very excited about that plant. It's been on my wish list for a long time so today felt like Christmas. The arboreas are a good size. The Tiara got lost in the shuffle somewhere:(

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I was worried that BD was going to knock off that one little leaf on the way to the plane. That little leaf wasn't there when it arrived at my house last week - I've been coaxing it along. It likes country and western music - who knew?

Shirley,
Have you forgotten I have the Real Arborea here in the USA and I'm sure someone else must have it too if I do. I will make cuttings in the fall. Can't help you with the Rothkirch.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Gloria, I would love to be on the list for a cutting of that, even if last place!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Well there you go Brugie! - you're almost there for the heat tolerant sanguinea project.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Brugcrazy, I bet you have a whole lot a new best friends today. Would you believe me if I told you I was your long lost sister???

tiG,
You are second...Shirley's first. I wonder how much of a problem they are to root....anyone know?

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Gloria . . how well does the Arborea take the heat and has yours bloomed yet?

Jeanne,
It's doing rather well in the heat and humidity....it has bloomed a couple of times. I think it would be a better looking plant if I move it to an area with less direct sun...some of the leaves look a little burned. I just hate to move it right now and make the mistake of killing it.
