Picture from 1840 of a datura
yes it does look like a datura to me Kelly. :)!
Yes, it is a Datura.
Kelley,
Thanks for the link you mailed to me lol It was quite a nice surprise and I enjoyed it very much lol It is Datura metel var. fastuosa f. fastuosa (a looooooooong name?) Both in the latter Century as now, both Datura and Brugmansia was/ is haunted by severe name confusion. Datura ceratocaula has also been classified under Brugmansia and under Solandra.
I even recognized this because my good frien, Gloria, gave me a datura, too.
Hi Marie! what kind ar eyou growing?
Tonny........I knew you would like htis! I would think it would be cool framed for your wall, it being 162 years old! So this same datura is still in cultivation today, 162 years later? I would think it is the great, great, great grandfather of most of the modern day daturas. What makes you think it was named incorrectly so long ago and we now have the name right? Did they keep careful hybridizing records so long ago that you have studied and knew immediately what it was?? Is the name WAYMANIANA no more? You have to respect things that last longer than we do!
