I am desperate for these 2 plants and they look rather expensive in the Wayside and Park's catalogs. Does anyone have a trade for ajuga or blue flag iris (Virginia native, I think). Any other shade or semi-shade plant might do.
Need Tiarella, Veronica Giles Van Hees (pink dwarf)
Woodspirit,
Not sure if you want to try to raise the tiarella from seed, but that is all I have at this point; mine aren't big enough to share yet :( I have about a few seeds from 2 named varieties: 'Cygnet' which is a clump-forming one and 'Running Tapestry' which is a spreader, but so far not too much. Neither sets seed well, but both are still in bloom (they started flowering in April and keep flowering in flushes).
Hi lupinelover. I live on a very steep lot in the mountains and have no greenhouse or even a good place to grow plants from seed inside. So......... I guess I am just going to have to hope for someone who is going to divide plants. thanks for the offer, though
I hope you find someone who can share. They are really beautiful plants; I love mine a lot! I test-sowed a few of my seeds in a special nursery area, to see how well they do. I haven't tried to grow them from seed myself, so a new experience. According to the books, they require cold stratification, or sowing outdoors. If they germinate and grow next spring, keep me in mind; I will have at least one baby to share!
Thanks, lupinelover :o)
hope this url help understand Veronica plant ... http://pss.uvm.edu/pss123/perveron.html
Woodspirit, I don't have either plant (or I'd share :) but you might try ordering a free catalog from Sunlight Gardens: http://gardenwatchdog.com/c/1480/ as I remember seeing their extensive lists of tiarella (they don't have their plant list online, and I've looked for my catalog but it's apparently gone AWOL.) Their prices are pretty reasonable and they're located in E. Tennessee.
Thanks go_vols. I sent for it as soon as I saw your post
Woodspirit,
Any special tiarella that you were looking for? I might be able to spare one or two come fall.
Evelyn
Evelyn, I'm sorry I didn't see your post until today. I don't have any particular variety in mind; they just looked so attractive to me, so anything you can spare would be great. I have blue flag iris and maybe a few bright lavender bee balm. Please e-mail me.
