Boy, I'm getting tall-

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm 5 ft. 9 inches tall and this is a picture of my Dr. Suess that is just beginning to Y. I had to look up to see the umbrella with the camera. Must be about 7 ft. now.

The leaves look so huge! How big was this when you planted it outside? I assume it is in the ground being that big??? So tell me Miss Brugie, what do you feed it? I know you are a great cook and your brugs are showing hteir appreciation!

Wow Brugie, how do you do it??????? fess up and share your secret...Is it in the ground? the ones I have in the groud are itty bitty....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

No, gals, it is in a pot. I guess without the pot it wouldn't be so tall, but it is the tallest I've ever had and still going upwards. I got this one last spring from Valley Grow.

Kell, the leaves on this one are small compared to a lot of the others I have. I have some brugs out there that have 18 to 20 inch leaves and probably 10 inches wide or more.

Pebble, just feed, water, trim, and debug. I don't put a whole lot of time into the brugs except for the day that I take leaves off. That does take a little time with over 50 of them. Once they Y, I still thin the umbrella a little because with huge leaves, the flowers don't show well. Today I'm working hard at sitting on the deck and enjoying it a lot. After yesterdays mowing and weedeating and then trimming brugs, it is kind of fun just looking at what I did accomplish.

Brugie, thanks for the tips. One piece of good news from me: one of my brugs has finally y'd.....
You know what Brugie, I cannot sit down and enjoy anything, I will sit down and start to gaze and see a weed here, a weed there, a leaf needs to be removed, or this and that, and find myself jumpin up all the time....
Last night I was exhausted, I thought, I'll sit for a bit outside and enjoy life, well, no sooner did I sit down that I was jumping up again doing this doing that, then I thought I'd transplant a brug into a bigger pot - picked up the pot - and there was a maturation chamber for ants....(a million white eggs) I had to run and get some stuff that I use on the ants, then I felt like I had creepers on me.......and I was so disgusted, I couldnt do anything else...

Pebble,

Watch out now.....you will get that first bud soon. I even love watching the buds make progress.

I'm sure if your work job includes sitting down, it probably feels good to get up and move around once you get home. I'm not really good at sitting unless at the computer. On hot days and we are starting to get them a lot, I don't move fast, but I still get my work done.

Brugie, please be sure to post pictures of this one when it starts to flower.
Shall I give mine bloom booster now?
shall I sit and pray with it? what kind of treat can I give it to entice it into blooming lots and lots?????

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Pebble, I don't use a lot of bloom booster. Once a month probably. Otherwise I only use the 20-20-20 a couple of times a week or more. Depends on how quickly they dry out and how much rain falls. I'm going outside now and make myself sit on the deck. Later..... :-) yeah, like I have to make myself sit on the deck. Comes easy sometimes.

Have a Great Day!!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

We are back to winter weather, it hasnt stopped raining all day, and I am wearing sweats and a sweater.....I am not complaining though, the rain is good for my plants, but I hope it lets up....it has a habit of raining without letting up for days on end......

Brugie, I'm new with brugs, so am I supposed to remove the little leaves on the lower stem?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Shirley, It will be huge by the end of summer. I've just discovered I'm the proud owner of two Dr Suess. They were labeled something else but I'm glad they turned out to be DS because I really like the flower.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Lizh, you can take anything off below the Y. Leave the above the Y stuff on because that could be your flowers you would be removing. I also think that until the Y gets some size to it, it is best to leave a few leaves on the main trunk. Gives the plant more area to take in the sun.

Terry, I can send you a JO when I send your other stuff. It would just be a cutting, but I'm pretty sure you have rooted a few of those in the last year or two. :-) Let me know by email in case I don't get back here for a while. Weekends can be pretty hectic.

Thank you, brugie
